Update Relationship

In this lesson, I am going to describe how to change project relationship manually


or by spreadsheet (excel help). So totally we have 2 sections as per below:

· Change relationship Manually-


· Change relationship By Excel help (software Spreadsheet)
Let us start by Manually solution. You should open your project and go to Activity
Sheet (1), select your activity (2) then on the Activity Details (3) find “Relationship”
(4) TAB and Push the “assign” (5) bottom. On the Assign Predecessor (6) dialog box
find your activity (7) and assign it as “Predecessor” (8) to selected activity (9).

I try to show you all steps which that I mentioned in text on above picture.

But this solution is not helpful if you want to use it for big projects, you need to
better tools to do this easily. Also, in order to find the effect of relationship changes
between activities you should study it before applying it to your project. This
solution is use to software spreadsheet export file for “Activity Relationship”.

Update Relationship

Please go to file menu and select export, then you should select your project for
update and go through your template. In my point of view below filed are necessary
in order to avoid any mistake during update. Also, you can delete unnecessary
items before applying the import file (be careful about it, because you should have
experience in this field).

I marked the necessary items in above by Blue. But how you can work with the
export file.

Totally you should consider three roles in this file:


1. If you want to delete the available relationship, you need to only mention
“D” character in the “Delete This Row” column (No.1)
2. If you want to add another relationship between two activities, you MUST
write another line with this subject. (No.2)
3. Please note that, If you are going to change only the Relationship Type in
the export file, software saves exist relationship and add your new
relationship into the project.

If you drive a big project, update relationship by excel is more practical and in case
of a little update, manual update is very useful
