SYNOPSIS
FAST RESPONSE FUEL METER
OBJECTIVE:
The fuel meter/balance is used to measure the quantity of fuel consumed by an
engine against the engine r.p.m (rotations per minute).
INTRODUCTION:
Increase in number of vehicles day by day with respect to the fuel depletion
leads us to effective utilization of fuel along with a better engine efficiency and
performance, with optimum fuel consumption.
For this purpose before going for mass production of engine, it has to be tested
with number of parameters like fuel consumed (kg/hr or g/s), pressure depletion
during combustion of fuel (bar or Pascal or atmospheric pressure), speed of engine
(r.p.m), density and temperature change in fuel. Fast response fuel meter is an
advance version of typical old fashion fuel meter.

WORKING DETAILS OF FAST RESPONSE FUEL METER
1. Acquisition of fuel into dual fuel vessel.
The fuel flows into dual tanks from the main tanks with the help of a
pump. Whenever the inlet valve of tank 1 is open the corresponding
outlet valve is closed and vice versa. Similarly for tank 2.
2. To calculate the amount of fuel consumed by the engine
• Whenever the outlet valve is open the fuel flows to engine and hence
there is change in pressure of tank. This will be sensed by the
differential pressure sensor and will convert the change in pressure
equivalent to 0-10v dc.
• This dc output will be fed into the PLC where the code is written for
conversion of dc voltage to amount of fuel consumed in kg/hr or g/s.
Since PLC is a digital device, for any analog calculations, conversions
one has to interface analog card to PLC.
For communication between PLC and analog card we go for point to
point communication.
• SCADA is user friendly software that is used to display the output and
also control the inputs on the monitor like level of tank, amount of fuel
consumed, active and passive tank, pressure intensity and current
weight equivalent of the tank.
ADVANTAGES AND APPLICATIONS:
• Measuring accuracy is improved than the previously used fuel
consumption measuring techniques.
• Vessel solution with which the problem of tackling of bubbles, vapour
can be eliminated, since gravimetric measuring principle is used.
• Continuous fuel consumption measurement is possible.
• The software’s used like SCADA is user friendly and easy to
understand.
• With this fuel meter unique measuring range is possible (consumption
of fuel in the range of 150kg/hr to 400kg/hr in case of special
application)
