Nowadays, as humanity progressed, many people are able to travel more easily
and fast than in the past. I completely disagree that one benefits more from
travelling in one’s home country rather than abroad.
First of all, travelling to foreign placed means encountering new cultures and
customs. When one spends time in another country, one understands the history,
architecture and traditions of that country more easily. This has a very profound
and beneficial impact mainly on children, as they will understand the world
around them better. For example, when a person travels to another country they
are more likely to remember different details about that country’s geography,
demographics, weather patterns or history. As a result, one can enrich their
knowledge of the world and environment by travelling to different countries.
Furthermore, getting in contact with people from a different culture can also
develop one’s understanding of the world. Generally speaking, people from
foreign countries often hold different opinions or perspectives. In today’s society
discrimination represents an important issue that will need to be solved quickly
and efficiently. One solution would be raising awareness of this problem by
informing the population about the different beliefes and views other people
have. I would argue that travelling is the most efficient way to acomplish this.
Last but not least, one of the defining characteristics of humans is curiosity.
Travelling fullfilles a person’s desire to understand and master the world around
them, and also provides them with a broader view of the world and the problems
we are currently facing. For instance, after seeing the devastating effects climate
change has on several parts of the globe, one will change the way they percieve
this damaging process and will probably start contributing more to slow or even
stop it. Humans have a natural desire to know, define and categorize the
environment they live in, and, as a result, for many people travelling to different
countries is a very important activity.
In conclusion, I would argue that going to foreign countries is much more
beneficial for a person than travelling in their own country, because it helps them
understand the environment better, meet new people and become more
empathetic, and, most importantly, it helps them shape their opinion abount the
world and all of its inhabitants.
