In the recent decades, environmental problems have prompted multiple studies and
initiatives to clarify and find solutions to environmental issues. Any type of ecological
consequences is created by all human activities, and tourism is no exception. The concern of
tourism with the quest for alternatives to its negative environmental impacts can be seen, for
example, in the planning of tourism development plans, in tourism studies curricula at schools
and universities, and in scientific research and also the development of segments of the nature-
oriented market and the general concern about mitigating the adverse effects of tourism.
The design proposal watercolors resort is a project that aims to develop a sustainable
tourism environment on the small island of Lusong in the northern Palawan region of the
Philippines. The term "sustainable" is increasingly being used in combination with terms like
"travel" and "tourism" to describe a desired mode of operation. Hotels aspire to be
"sustainably" managed. The tour firms want to be "sustainable." And tourists are deeply
concerned with investing their money on "sustainable" projects only. However, the term
"sustainable tourism" implies for most people as "Sustainable" being synonymous with "eco-
friendly.” In fact, it is a major part of being sustainable to be environmentally concerned about
the environment. It is not the only thing to remember, though. An attraction or destination can
be, and still not sustainable, as "green" as green can be because when it comes to
sustainability, there are three "pillars" which are environmental, economic, and socio-cultural.
More so, to be genuinely called as "sustainable tourism," it must be sustainable in all three
regions.
The design proposal contributes to environmental behavior particularly for a calming,
attractive and self-providing environment because of its nature oriented approach and
sustainable, designed landscape elements. The overall atmosphere will be elegant, relaxing,
and nature-oriented, with ecological sustainability because the creation of the nature-balanced
resort and the design will actively contribute to the guests' environmental and safe actions. In
addition, it is built to provide quick solutions in heating/cooling, electricity, and hot water. In
essence, cooling comes from the shades of roofs and trees. Also, the resort's target group is
mainly divers who enjoy sports, are environmentally conscious, care about biodiversity, and can
accommodate a high quality of service. Therefore, the resort is actively committed to cover the
needs of this target group.
Numerous travelers do not implement sustainable tourism. Besides, mass tourism
which involves hotel packages, cruises, beach parties, and other events, are the activities that
an average traveler would actively engage in. Fortunately, the excellent news about the
concept of the design proposal is that it will help people and societies with the idea of
sustainable tourism and minimize the negative effects that an individual can bring to the
environment. It will encourage positive growth for countries and their areas to develop too. We
all know how millions to billions are being injected into foreign countries by tourists, and
because of this, tourism may be the only factor for change in economic and chaotic
environments. Although tourists visit the area, there is a high risk of ecosystem extinction due
to pollution, local crime, and environmental damage.
In conclusion, sustainable tourism takes a long-term approach which considers the
potential needs of the future as well as the existing ones. Tourists who participate in
sustainable tourism activities are more likely to want to help and promote local communities
and habitats while mitigating the negative effects of their visit. Many travelers are much more
conscious now than they used to be, and society is far more aware of the consequences of their
acts in general. In many ways, this has fueled the long-term actions of a number of stakeholders
who want to meet their goals while also enhancing their own business prospects.
