Turtle Displacement and Tension Problems

This document contains 5 physics problems involving forces, pulleys, and displacements: 1) A turtle walks in a grid and ends up at point (24,10). The displacement of the turtle from the origin is calculated. 2) A pulley system is shown with an object of weight 200N on the right. The question asks to find the weights supported by the other two pulleys. 3) Given one pulley supports 500N, the question asks to find the weights supported by the other two pulleys to maintain equilibrium. 4) A pulley system is shown in equilibrium with the string in the center horizontal. The question asks to find the tensions in each section of the string

PROBLEMS

1. A tittle turtle is placed at the origin of an xy grid drawn on a large sheet of paper.
Each grid box is 1.0 cm by 1.0 cm. The turtle walks around for a while and finally
ends up at point (24, 10), that is, 24 boxes along the x-axis, and 10 boxes along
the y-axis. Determine the displacement of the turtle from the origin at the point.

2. The system in Figure below and the pulleys are frictionless. If F w3, the weight of
the object on the right, is 200 N, What are the values of F w2 and Fw1.

3. Suppose Fw1 in the figure above is 500 N find the values of F W2 and FW3 if the
system is to hang in equilibrium as shown.

4. The system in the figure below is in equilibrium with the string in the center
exactly horizontal. Find (a) tension T1, (b) tension T2, (c) tension T3 and (d)
angle ɵ.

5. In a ship-unloading operation, a 3500-N automobile is supported by a cable. A

rope is tied to the cable and pulled to center the automobile over its intended
position. What is the tension in the rope?
