1. Introduction
The Academic Audit of the Department was conducted on 18th and 19th December 2015.
The Purpose of the Audit is to Provide the opportunity for a regular strategic overview of
the entirety of a Department’s Teaching and Learning activity. The Self Evaluation
Document (SED) of the Department was presented to the Panel. The Panel Members
investigated the different aspects of the Document, and authenticated them with the
supporting evidences. This report consolidates the findings of the panel and put forth the
suggestions and area of improvements possible in the future.

2. Milestones of the Department
MCA Course Establishment 23 September 1998.
Student intake was increased upto 60 in the Year Of 2000.
1998 – 2004 Affiliated with University of Madras, Chennai.
From the year 2001 onwards SHINE (Sacred Heart Informatics Network for
Enterprises), an annual inter-collegiate IT Meet is being conducted for 12 times.
2004 onwards the Department was Affiliated to Thiruvalluvar University, Vellore.
MCA Course was granted Autonomy in the year of 2007.
Exclusive Placement Cell was initiated in the Year of 2008.
Initiated National Level Workshop on Resent Trends from the Year of 2012
onwards.
Approval of Lateral Entry in the Year of 2013.
M. Phil Computer Application Course was started in the Academic Year 2015-16.

5. Curriculum
The Curriculum is being updated and revised periodically. From the Inception of
Autonomy for the MCA Course the Curriculum has been revised Four Times
according to the needs of the Academia and Industry.
In the Year 2007, the Syllabus was framed for the First time in Autonomy Pattern.
The Second Revision was done in the year 2008 to inculcate the CBCS Pattern.
The Third Revision 2011 and the Fourth Revision were made in the Years 2011
and 2014 Respectively.
During the Revision made in the Year 2014 , the curriculum for [Link] Computer
Application was passed and approved.
The Next due for Revision of the Syllabus for M.C.A and [Link] will be during
the Year 2016.
Through the Technology Elective Courses, Student are provided with Choice to
Learn Java or .NET.
Separate Elective Courses are available for Business and System Domain Streams.
The Students are encouraged to take up Research in the Research Domain Course.
Placement Oriented Courses such as Optimization Techniques, Soft Skills and
Communicative Skills are incorporated in the Curriculum.

The Students are given opportunity to learn the art of doing a Project by doing 3
In House and 1 Industrial Project.

9. Outcome of the students meeting
Students felt that the infrastructure provided by the college and department is GOOD
The rules and regulations of the department were appreciated.
Advanced curriculum and syllabus was appreciated and felt very proud in studying at
this institution.
They felt that the Staffs of the department are having best expertise and experience
and are handling classes in a very professional way.
SGP programme was well appreciated.
PG students are not given access to Digital Library.
Library timings not sufficient.
Very minimal participation in extra-curricular activities for PG students.
Wi-fi bandwidth not sufficient.
Plug points for charging laptops not adequate in classrooms.
Lunch room with water is expected in every block.
Girls are not allowed to attend competitions outside the campus.
Syllabus is advanced but heavy and due to that students felt stressed and are planning
to move to other colleges.
Importance is not given for communication and soft skills classes.
10. Outcome of the Faculty meeting
They felt very proud to serve for this institution.
They felt satisfied with the pay package.
EPF contribution was also appreciated.
Friendly and professional academic environment created by HOD was well
appreciated.
11. Overall assessment
The evaluation process followed in the laboratory is good.
Uniform for students on Fridays is a good practice.
The SGP programme is having a good impact on the outcome of the students.
The virtual classroom with Audio visual effect and also reading section in Library is
good.
No visiting professors.
No of volumes of Text books at library is not sufficient.
Wi-fi bandwidth is too low.
Web site of the college is not updated.
Publications and participations in FDP, seminars, conferences and workshops by
faculty members are minimal.
Placement activities and placement related training are good.

Placements in MNC are less.
To complete 90 working days for first semester students is not feasible because of the
admission procedure.
12. Suggestions
More no of text book volumes has to be purchased
More Indexed journals atleast Scopus indexed to be subscribed.
Publications and participations in FDP, seminars, conferences and workshops by
faculty members are to be increased.
Paid leaves should be given to the faculty members to attend FDP, seminars,
conferences and workshops.
Incentives may be given to the faculty by the management for publishing papers and
producing 100% results.
External funded research projects to be taken up by the faculty members.
Students may be asked to write job oriented online exams (elitmus, brainbench etc.,)
for better placements
Since the time frame of 90 days for first semester is not met, certain complex subjects
such as optimization techniques may be shifted to other semester.
Programming Languages like java and .net may be given as an elective both in theory
and practicals.
Syllabus for Research domain and self learning courses may be clearly defined and it
may include more areas.
Lab credits may be reduced from 4 to 2 or 3.
Soft Skills and Communication Skills may be combined into a single subject.
Uniform distribution of number of theories and practical has to be followed in all the
semesters.
Total number of papers may be reduced to 8 per semester having 5T and 3P.
Software projects I,II,III may be removed as practicals and be included as a
component in programming lab practicals.
Importance has to be given for communication and soft skills classes.
13. Conclusion
Fundamental rules and regulations followed by the college management and
department staff members are very good.
Basic amenities and infrastructure in the college and the department is very good.
Library facility is very good and there is a vast scope of development.
Faculty Attrition ratio is low and that is good for a management.
Faculty members are well experienced, qualified and talented and need more
motivation in the form of incentives for publications and training.
Students are given good placements and it may further be improved by placing them
in MNC.
