Titration Analysis of NaOH Purity

The document provides the details of a student's titration experiment involving an aqueous sulfuric acid solution (X) and an aqueous sodium hydroxide solution (Y). The student recorded the initial and final burette readings for three titrations of 25 mL of solution Y with solution X in a table. The summary is then to: 1) Identify the volume of solution X used for calculations based on the titration results in the table. 2) Calculate the concentration of sulfuric acid in solution X. 3) Calculate the number of moles of sulfuric acid used in the titration. 4) Write the balanced chemical equation for the reaction between the sulfuric acid and sodium hydroxide solutions

Answer ALL questions.

Do NOT spend more than 30 minutes on Question 1.

1. (a) A student is provided with two solutions, X andY. X is aqueous sulphuric acid containing
4.9 g drn-3 •

Y is an aqueous sodium hydroxide solution which was prepared by dissolving 5.0 g of

impure sodium hydroxide in 1 dm3 of solution.

The student titrates X against 25.0 cm3 of Yin order to determine the purity of the sodium
hydroxide.

Figure 1 below shows the readings on the burette before and after each titration against
25 cm3 of solution Y.
