COURSEWORK OBJECTIVES

To enable students to:

1. write an essay of 1000 words by:


- examining different texts and elements of children’s literature for young learners,
and
- responding critically in writing to different literary texts for children.

2. present a 10 mins storytelling performance incorporating appropriate craft of


storytelling in pairs.

3. write a reflection of 500 words based on the storytelling performance.

STIMULUS

Children's literature is important because it provides students with opportunities to
respond to literature. As teacher to be, you are required to have fundamental of children’s
literature so that you are able to experience, appreciate and respond to children’s literary texts.
Therefore, you are require to complete three tasks as follows:

TASK 1: READER RESPONSE (TWO DIFFERENT TEXTS) – ESSAY (1000 WORDS)


(INDIVIDUAL WORK) 30%

You will do the following;

 Choose any two different texts on children’s literature for young learners.

 Examine the texts and elements of children’s literature.

 Respond critically in writing to different literary texts.

 Write an essay of 1000 words based on your reader response.

TASK 2. STORYTELLING PERFORMANCE (PAIR WORK) 25%


- CRAFTING THE STORY
- PERFORMANCE (10 MINS)

You will do the following:

a) CRAFTING THE STORY

 Get in pairs.

 Choose your story and learn it as a whole rather than in fragments.

 You can create your own story and also adapt from any stories.

 Map out the story line and absorb the style of the story.

 Prepare suitable and interesting props and costumes incorporating appropriate craft of
storytelling.

b) PERFORMANCE (10 MINS)

 Present your storytelling performance in pairs.

 Time allocated for your performance is 10 minutes.

TASK 3: REFLECTIVE ESSAY (500 words) (INDIVIDUAL WORK) 15%

You will do the following:

 Reflect on your strengths and weaknesses while you engaged in Task 2. (before
[during their crafting], during and after their performance)

 Write your reflective essay in 500 words. Suggest suitable recommendations for
improvement of your weaknesses, if any.

3. Plagiarism in any form will not be tolerated. All borrowed ideas must be acknowledged

the content page.
