Most of the time, we consider Physical Education as the least important of all school
subjects because most of us cannot see the essence of studying it. A lot of the students
hated this subject since it required them to move their body or dance in front of people
which somehow made them feel embarrassed and conscious of how they look.
However, unbeknownst to them, this subject does not focus only on physical activities
rather, it helps develop the totality of a person.
It has been mentioned in the video that Physical Education has a wide range of benefits
by engaging in exercises. First, it helps us to be physically fit and healthy which will
keep us from getting serious health issues. Second, it reduces the level of stress and
anxiety and improve our mental toughness. Hence, physical education does not only
keep our body strong, but our mind as well. Third, exercise enhances our mood and
influences our minds to adopt positive thoughts and it also improves our self-esteem
and emotional health. Lastly, PE supports knowledge and learning. Truth be told, PE is
just as important as any other subjects like Math, Science and English because its
health implications impacts all other learning. As [Link] described it, exercise is
“miracle growth” for the brain because it helps create new nerve cells which is used for
learning and storing memory.
Overall, Physical Education does not absolutely mean everyone has to be sporty to
enjoy this kind of activity. Physical education promotes basic exercises and good health
habits especially in this modern era and our current situation due to pandemic, where
excessive use of electronic devices prevents people from exerting too much physical
efforts. Personally, I enjoy PE subject because it helps me unwind from stressful
academic requirements especially when we dance, and PE classes is the only time of
the week that I can exercise properly. Moreover, we should not equate one subject as
being more important than another because every subject matter in terms of cultivating
ourselves as a better individual.
