Coming from a remote and small yet vibrant village in Sylhet district of Bangladesh, I lead a
life near the River Surma, surrounded by lush green lands. I gained admission to my dream
college, and I was hopping towards my dream of becoming a scientist. The entire premise of
Quantum Physics, Statistical Mechanics, Biophysics began to unfold before me. The next
four years as a student at the University of Chittagong, pursuing my Bachelor of Science
education in Physics, enveloped me in a learning spree like no other. Quantum Mechanics,
Statistical Mechanics, Electrodynamics, Computational Physics, Molecular spectroscopy
were some of the most captivating course I found in my undergraduate study. I also found a
fitting place in the realms of Machine Learning and Programming, including Quantum
Computing and Quantum Information. I followed works of Maria Schuld, Umesh Vazirani,
Seth Lyod and others. I continued my efforts into Machine Learning, even following Andrew
Ng, Christopher Bishop, Tomaso Poggio and their elaborate research and development
expertise in Machine Learning. To further enhance my skill in Data Science and ML, I
followed on the data scientist path at Dataquest. There I improved my skill in Python
(NumPy, Panda, Seaborn, scikit-learn), SQL, Command Line and Machine learning. I have
an ongoing ML project that is enabling my use of Matminer (a Python library) to classify
material using SVM. Additionally, I am also working on finding the ground-state energy of
the Be2 molecule using Qiskit. This effort rests on the shoulders of a prior interest I
possessed in the field of Medical Physics, mostly dealing with radiation properties. I
collaborated with a friend to write and publish two scientific papers, one in a peer-reviewed
journal and another in a Scopus-indexed journal. I learned about academic writing and got
working experience with Latex. From procuring a good understanding of Linear Algebra,
Multivariable Calculus, and Statistics, I am putting in all the efforts to elevate my standings
in ML, Quantum Physics and Material Physics, and with the help of a strong curriculum and
excellent mentors, I think I can get closer to achieving a comprehensive understanding of
these domains.
Along with my graduate education, I am building on my expertise through my experiences
under the keen supervision of Prof. Dr. Shahida Akhter and Dr. Eng. Sheikh Manjura Hoque,
as they guide me through my position at Bangladesh Atomic Energy Center, a premier
research institute in Bangladesh. My ongoing tenure here has given me a clear perspective
into synthesizing and characterizing core-shell nanoparticles using the co-precipitation and
thermal decomposition method. Now, my friend and I are trying to evaluate its biomedical
application. Ours is the first effort in synthesizing core-shell nanoparticles, so it was my
responsibility to be proactive and analyze many experimental procedures. Although I failed
in my preliminary attempts, eventually I found my way. Furthermore, I am getting hands-on
working experience with TEM, XRD, PPMS, SEM, and I am trying to learn the working
principles of MRI. I keep myself up to date with work going on in other groups too.
Beyond my core interest in elevating my level of knowledge and research expertise in
Physics, I participated in INTERNATIONAL CENTENARY COMDECA and gained the
first prize in creative writing and their quiz program. Furthermore, I got many national and
international scholarships right from my childhood, which subsequently, elevated my overall
interest in pursuing qualifications. I actively participated in informatics, mathematics
Olympiads in my schooling years as well. I enjoy traveling and further appreciating the world
in all its diversity and rawness. I also enjoy music during my spare time and would love to
become a flautist someday.
My decision to study abroad is a rock-solid one that comes after careful consideration of
every interest and intrigue I hold as a student and budding professional. The interdisciplinary
nature of my interests makes the pursuit of Ph.D all the most inviting and exciting, as it will
stretch and pull my prowess and allow me the opportunity to enhance my research and
innovation skills. In the next ten years, I envision myself as a good researcher equipped with
technical and academic proficiency. I wish to work as a researcher in a renowed lab. As I
have working experience with data science, along with my Ph.D education, I will try to
improve my skill in data science too. While looking for the perfect learning destination, I
found UNI as the one that could accommodate my vision for the future and my dream. The
institute possesses a diverse research platform for various courses and has been a renowned
institute all over the world.
Being a part of the UNI and diving straight in to learn more about a field that completely
encompasses my intellect would be an opportunity of a lifetime, and I know that I will be
holding on to this prospect with both hands. I am ready for the challenges that await me at
your institute. I sincerely hope you see me as a formidable candidate and a good researcher
who will succeed through this program. I thank you immensely.
