Chapter 3

METHODS OF RESEARCH

This chapter discusses the methods and procedures utilized for the study. It includes data
collection, analysis, and recording. It contains the Research design, respondents, sampling
techniques, instruments used, the construction, validation, administration and retrieval of this
instrument, and the statistical treatment of data.

A qualitative research study is presented in descriptive, narrative from rather than as a

scientific report. Qualitative data analysis entails classifying things, persons, and events and the
properties that characterized them. The final report will be an exhaustive construction and
description of the case being studied from the voices, feelings, actions and meaning of the
participants in the study. It goes beyond mere surface appearances, but not trivial.

Data analysis method appears to be an appropriate method because it focuses on finding the
meaning of the experiences of the participant.

CONSTRUCTION OF THE INSTRUMENT

The researcher mainly used the questionnaire for gathering data. The
questionnaires were backed up with interviews. The evidences were properly
documented, analyzed and interpreted involving the characteristics of academic
achievement and socialization of home school university students.

The questionnaires were designed to include items from books, magazines and
internets. The researcher formulated the concept of the study by reading articles, studies
literature, bulletins, memoranda and the internet. From these readings, the conceptual
framework, details and analysis were formulated.

The drafted questionnaires were submitted to comments and suggestions in the

doctoral program. These were considered, the drafts revised up “to the final draft. Then
showed it to her Dissertation Adviser who in turn, gave suggestions on what items
needed for revision or improvement.
