Adjusting ultrasound output
Use the steps below to adjust ultrasound output to suit operating mode.
ALARA is the principle of a condition of restraining the acoustic output level to as low a level as deemed
possible and inspecting the maximum amount of diagnostic information. This is the same principle as
used with ionizing radiation.
Diagnostic ultrasound system are said to be harmless and non-invasive. However, since it exposes the
human body to ultrasonic waves, it is not completely safe. Therefore make examinations using the
lowest possible ultrasound output.
For more details on ultrasonic output, refer to the separate Safety and Prep Guide.
You can adjust output in 5% increments. In CW mode, you can adjust output in three stages: L, M
and H.
A lower acoustic power setting will reduce the surface emperature of the probe tip.
This instrument limits ultrasound output in accordance with IEC 60601-2-37 Ed.2 (2007) when it is used
for fetal observation. The MI upper limit and the TI upper limit are both below 1.0.
General, Obstetrics, Obstetrics TV, Fetal, Heart, Obstetrics 3D and/or STIC applications are used for
ultrasonic output limit. This limit can be temporarily suspended using the follow steps.
2 Select [OK].
The AP value is highlighted.
The limit is suspended until the [New Patient] key is pressed. To limit ultrasound output, again select
[Power Limit Override] on the touch panel.

3-4 D Mode
The D mode displays the data on the blood flow in the heart and blood vessels using Doppler effect.
Instead, it displays blood flow information in waveforms.
The B/D mode simultaneously displays a B mode image and a D mode image. It observes blood flow
information on a D mode image while checking the B mode image to see what part of the body the
detected blood flow information belongs to.
The following two kinds of ultrasound beams are used to display a D mode image.
PW Doppler
Emits the ultrasound beam as discrete pulses to display a D mode image. You can obtain blood flow
information concerning any point on a B mode image.
CW Doppler
Emits the ultrasound beam continuously to display a D mode image. You can change the ultrasonic
wave transmission direction by connecting a steerable CW compatible probe. CW Doppler can
detect the peak flow velocity as it receives signals at all depths.

I) THI mode
THI mode is an observation mode that forms images from the harmonic component reflected from
tissue (tissue harmonics). Tissue harmonics enables a clear image that is free from artifacts such as
side lobes. Particularly, this mode offers improved image diagnosis of patients who do not readily
transmit ultrasound wave signals. Since the receiving frequency is high, the sensitivity slightly
decreases. Pay careful attention to the sensitivity when examining a patient.
This method displays a THI mode image without reducing frame rate.
This method displays a THI mode image with higher resolution than FmT.
This method displays a THI mode image with higher resolution than Wbt.
Coded Imaging, or CHI Method, is a method that codes the sent waveform. In B mode, it improves
sensitivity in deep regions. In eFlow mode, it enhances spatial resolution more than PD mode does.
NOTE: THI mode and Coded mode are not available with some probes. Refer to the separate "Instruction for use
Section".

The result of comparison between the average heart rate over four heartbeats and the most recent
heart rate is within the allowable range
The result of comparison between the average heart rate over four heartbeats and a previous heart
rate is within the allowable range
The rate of change between two consecutive heartbeats is within the allowable range
If the latest heartbeat is within the above allowable range, that heartbeat is judged to be stable. The
heart rate in the upper right of the screen is highlighted.
Judgment example When [H.R. Stability Display (Average)] is 10% and [H.R. Stability Display (Continuous)] is 20%
When the average heart rate of the previous four heartbeats was 100, the heart rate of the previous 1
heartbeat was 110, and the heart rate of the latest 1 heartbeat was 105.
HR 100
110 105
In this case, the allowable range relative to the previous 4 heartbeats is 90 to 110. Therefore, both the
previous heartbeat and the latest heartbeat are within the allowable range.
In this case, the allowable range for two consecutive heartbeats is 88 to 132. Therefore, the latest
heartbeat is within the allowable range.
The two conditions are satisfied, so the latest heartbeat is judged to be stable.
