The researcher utilized the descriptive survey method employing
documentary analysis and prepared questionnaire check-list to be able to
gather information necessary for the study. This method pursued to determine
the status of a phenomenon, describes the current situation, determine the
nature prevailing conditions or practices and seeks accurate description of
activities, objectives, persons and processes (Wikipedia). It describes further as
a method of determining the nature of situation, as it exists in the time of the
study. According to Calmorin (2010) the descriptive survey design is employed
to gather information about the present or existing conditions.
This method of research is most appropriate in this study because the
study sought to determine the performance of the Tomas Claudio Colleges in
the Criminology Licensure Examination as an accredited higher education
institution in the province of Rizal. The collection of data needed for the
analysis of the performance of the TCC and survey-interview conducted in the
locale of the study with 40 respondents coming from the examinees of the TCC
who took the criminologist licensure examination on year 2016-2017.
The researcher started to present title for the approval of research
instructor. Upon approval of the thesis title, the researcher reviewed all the
collected data from the PRC results and additional information using internet
and searching from the school library, books, published and unpublished
materials, thesis and all other available sources that may help to make the
research study.
The researcher prepared a checklist-questionnaire for gathering needed
data from the respondents. Revisions and modifications of instrument were
made in the questionnaire-checklist upon approval. The instrument was
subjected to content validation through the assistance of professional lecturers
and experts in the field of research. Suggestions and other corrective measures
were incorporated in the final form as everything is properly scrutinized by
concerned persons knowledgeable in the field of research evaluation.
Researcher sent a request letter to the President of the Institution and to
the Dean of Criminology Department to conduct and distribute the
questionnaires to the respondents. Researcher asked the approval of the
president of the school as well as the Dean of the College of criminology to
conduct the study.
The questionnaire-checklist was administered to the respondents by
picking them one by one instead of group because of the availability of time of
respondents. The data gathered was encoded, tabulated, analyzed and
interpret base on the sub-problems that used in the interpretation of data.
The statistical tools used for describing the data are item mean and the
Likert Scale. The Likert scale was used for the questionnaire that requires
responses from ranges of the tool. In answering the problem stated in the
study, the following statistical tools were applied:
To determine the Performance of Tomas Claudio Colleges in the
criminologist licensure examination frequency distribution was used.
To determine the success and limiting factors that contribute on the
performance of the Criminology students in licensure examination weighted
mean was utilized.
Most of the questions required responses using the Likert scale with four
options. The four-point Likert Scale was used in categorizing the success and
limiting factors that contributes to the performance of the students in the
criminologist licensure examination. The Students asked to rate each item
using a four-point scale as follows:
