BBA / Fourth Semester /PSY 201: Basic Psychology
Candidates are required to give their answers in their own words as far as practicable. The figure in
the margin indicates full marks.

Group-A
Brief answers questions: [1*5= 5]
1. What is perception?
2. Birds flying in the same direction appear as a group. Explain how Gestalt’s
principle explains this phenomenon.
3. State the goals of psychology.
4. What do you mean by psychology 2000? Explain with an example.
5. Differentiate between psychology and common sense.

Group-B
Short Answer questions: [3*5=15]
6. How would you conduct research if you were to collect the opinion of teenagers
towards smoking?
7. Explain constancies and illusions with examples.
8. Explain Kelley’s attribution theory and its importance.
Group-C

Comprehensive answer questions: [2*5=10]


9. Read the following case carefully and answer the questions given below:
Sulav, a research scientist thought to do research on cause and effect relationship. He
planned to see the effect of marijuana on memory. To research it, he selected four
groups of male subjects comparable in age and educational level. When a subject
arrived atthe laboratory, he was given an oral dose of marijuana in the form of a
“brown cookie.” All subjects were given the same type of cookie and the same
instructions. But the does level of marijuana varied depending on the group: 5, 10, 15,
and 20 milligrams of THC, the active ingredient in marijuana. After consuming
marijuana, the subject engaged in a series of tasks; one of the tasks wants to memorize
10 lists of words. Each list contained 10 unrelated words. So the memorization task
was quite different. The subjects were allowed 30 minutes to memorize the word lists.
One week later the subject was brought back to the laboratory and asked to recall as
many words as possible from the lists.
Questions:
a. What is Sulav’s hypothesis? On what basic hypotheses are formulated?
b. What kinds of studies cannot be done through the experimental method?
Describe.
