Title: The Order of Adjectives

Cognitive aims:
- to grasp the meaning of adjectives and list them accordingly
- to use adjectives in the right order within a sentence
- to develop pupils’ communicative competence by using proper lexical and grammar
structures
Affective aims:
- to stimulate pupils’ imagination and creativity
- to give pupils confidence in their ability to use the English language

Anticipated problems:
- when working in groups some Ss may not contribute
- some students may not properly understand some oral commands and it will be
necessary to translate them into Romanian;
- due to emotions there may occur vocal pauses, voice volume too soft, rate of
speaking too fast or slow etc.

Aids: realia, blackboard, handouts, posters, post its, strips of paper etc.

Activity 1:
Aim:-to warm Ss up
Timing:2’
Interaction: Ss-T,T-Ss
Procedure: T greets class and inquires about Ss’ mood. T asks for absentees.

Activity 2:
Aim: - to check previous taught knowledge and homework
Timing:5’
Interaction: T-Ss, Ss-T
Procedure: Teacher asks Ss to read homework and write the answers on the
blackboard(if necessary)
Activity 3(lead-in):
Aim- to introduce the new topic and awaken interest
Timing: 5’
Interaction: T-Ss, Ss-T
Procedure: T asks Ss what is their most prized possession. Or what would they like
to posses. After they answer, T asks details about it. Color, shape, age etc.

Activity 4:
Aim- to introduce adjectives, to recognize them
Timing: 10’
Interaction: T-Ss, Ss-T
Procedure: T spreads hand outs with a text which contains clusters of adjectives. T
asks Ss to read the text out loud and then underline the adjectives. T asks Ss if they
think that the order of the adjectives is random.

Activity 5
Aim- to correctly categorize adjectives
- to organize adjectives in the correct order.
Timing: 10’
Interaction: T-Ss, Ss-T
Procedure: T puts in front of the class a table which contains the main categories of
adjectives, in columns, organized in the correct order. As they copy the table into
their notebooks they receive two or three post-its that have different adjectives
written on them. Ss are supposed to stick them in the correct column of the table.

Activity 6
Aim- to use the learnt information in a controlled context
Timing: 10’
Interaction: T-Ss, Ss- Ss, Ss-T
Procedure: In pars, Ss must solve exercise two from the hand out. They must form
complete descriptions of certain objects by making the correct choice(a, b or c). Ss
read the descriptions.

Activity 7 (Feed-back)
Aim- to ensure feedback for the previously learned information
Timing: 10’
Interaction: T-Ss, Ss- Ss, Ss-T
Procedure: In groups, Ss receive different objects which they have to describe by
using as many adjectives as they can, by placing them in the right order.

Activity 8.
Aim- homework assignment
Timing: 3’
Interaction: T-Ss
Procedure: T asks Ss to solve the last exercise from the hand out they have
received, and exercise number 3 from page 79.
