Phytochemical Screening of Ruellia tuberosa

The phytochemical screening of the Ruellia tuberosa stem ethanol extract revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides, saponins, and terpenoids but no presence of tannins. Testing showed the ethanol extract had antibacterial activity against E. coli, with a mean zone of inhibition of 13.67mm. Streptomycin, used as a positive control, had the highest antibacterial activity with a mean zone of 33.33mm, while ethanol as a negative control showed no activity.

Results and Discussion

Phytochemical Screening

The phytochemical screening of the Ruellia tuberosa stem ethanol extract is

shown in the Table 1. The result of the phytochemical screening reveals the presence of

alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides, saponins, and terpenoids but no presence of tannins.

Antibacterial Testing

The ethanol extract of Ruellia tuberosa stem showed antibacterial activity against

E. [Link] result is presented in Table 2. Streptomycin showed the highest antibacterial

activity against [Link] (33.33mm diameter of zone of inhibition. Ethanol stem extract of

Ruellia tuberosa showed a high antibacterial activity against E. coli (13.67mm diameter

of zone of inhibition). Ethanol did not show antibacterial activity against [Link].
