Civil Engineering Cost Estimation Guide

This document provides instructions for Assignment 2 of the course ECM366 Civil Engineering Quantities & Estimation. Students are to work in groups to estimate the costs for brick wall and tiling works by visiting a construction site, measuring areas, and using provided price rates. They must submit a 10 page maximum hardcopy report by May 11th including drawings, dimensions, and overall cost estimates with 15% profit included. Marks will be distributed based on demonstrating the learning outcome of performing cost estimation using appropriate techniques and tools while recognizing limitations.

ECM366

`SUBJECT : CIVIL ENGINEERING QUANTITIES & ESTIMATION

COURSE CODE : ECM366

ASSIGNMENT : 2 (CHAPTER 4)

ESTIMATION
Learning outcome:
At the end of this session, students should be able to:
 Show cost estimation using appropriate technique and engineering tools with an awareness of
limitation (CO2PO5)

Guideline:
Students may go to the field experience during the Week Without Walls (WWW) as implemented by
HEA from 7th to 11th May 2018.

Synopsis:
This assignment is to test student’s abilities in estimation for brick walls and tiles works only. Students
are required to work in groups to carry out the task given. The time given for this assignment is only 1
week from the date of assignment instruction.

Topic: Estimation

1. Estimating of Brick Works

2. Estimating of Tiling Works

Instruction:
The students required to visit the site (location is based on the opinion given by the respective Lecturer)
and each group needs to measure the area of the location given. The students required to provide a
figure/drawings of walls & tiles and use the appropriate elevation to indicates the size of area where
needed to show clearly dimension in millimetres (mm). Estimates the overall costs for the works based
on the price rate given in Appendix.

Deadline:
Students should submit in the hardcopy report latest before 11 MAY 2018 (Friday) 5.00pm

Format:
Hardcopy report using Microsoft Words and maximum is 10 pages. Please records (picture or video)
during the activities as evidence of the attendance and should be attached in the report.

Marks Distribution –10% (CO2PO5)
