TOPIC: GENDER AND DEVELOPMENT

In the third days of In-Service Training (INSET) of Barasoin Memorial Integrated
School. It started at exactly 8:00 in the morning with the opening prayer and to
acknowledge everyone, the emcee requested every grade level to open their camera
and sing a song, “I’m alive alert awake enthusiastic” to welcomed everyone warmly.
During the presentation proper, Mr. Ryan Vincent Cruz, Teacher III was the first
Speaker who delivered an introduction and message about the goal of the seminar. His
topic focused on the legal mandates and basis of gender and development. Everyone
in society has the right to equal opportunities to achieve a full and satisfying life. As he
presented the School Calendar, the following programs aim to address the various
gender needs and concern of employees, officers and other individuals.
Monthly celebration like Women’s Day on March, aims to pay tribute to all
leaders who passionately led and continue to advance women’s advocacies. LGBT
Month on June is about the right of lesbian, gay, and bisexual. Breastfeeding Month of
August is to encourage breastfeeding and to provide specific measures that would
present opportunities for mothers to continue expressing their milk or breastfeeding their
infant or young child. Schools as Zones of Peace on September is a “Special Protection
of Children Against Child Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act”, all concerned
personnel in the Central and field offices are mandated to make necessary actions to
make all schools a place where children can receive utmost security and peace.
Children’s Month of November goals to progressively realize the rights of children.
Month of December is Violence against Women it’s about providing for protective
measures for victims, prescribing penalties therefore, and for other purposes.
At the end of his presentation, he gave activity to make a slogan about the
following topic.
Next Speaker was Ms. Maria Jasmine F. Libiran Master Teacher II topic focused
on gender related issues and concerns of men and women in society, particularly in
school. The teacher were also accustomed on how to acknowledge gender
differences and promote gender sensibility in school. Gender socialization is a process
by which individuals develop, refine and learn to do gender through internalizing
gender norms and roles as they interact with key agents of socialization, such as family,
social networks and other social institution. She added that as a teacher, we play a
major role in creating school environments that are free of gender bias and in
encouraging both male and female to rich their highest potentials in work and abilities.
After the discussion proper, the speaker were given the opportunity to ask
questions to give opinions and reactions in relation with the topic. And also she give an
activity for every grade level like Dance Presentation, Jingle making, Acronym, Poster
Making and Slogan Making.
Overall, the program was smoothly and efficiently successful because of the
cooperation and participation of all teachers in Barasoain Memorial Integrated School
headed by Reynaldo M. Diaz principal IV.
