Christine's favorite game

My favorite game is "word master”
Ilike this game because it is easy to implement and to adapt. Itis also effective : good for revising
basic vocabulary and it also encourages the students to expand their knowledge. It enables
teamwork and positive learning atmosphere too.
Here are some steps to help you use this activity in the classroom.
step 1 : The class is divided into 2 teams (A & B). The teacher has a dictionary and asks a
student from altemate teams to call out a letter from A to Z.
step 2 : Then he/she picks a word starting with that letter from the dictionary and reads the
meaning
step 3: The children in opposite teams compete to guess the word, eg. “this word starts with ¢ and
means to prepare food or a meal”; the students then have to guess what it is - in this case "cook".
The first team to give the right answer scores a point,
Points are recorded on the board and the team with most points wins. ( the teacher can set a time
limit for giving answers and a round of -- points before the start of the game)
This activity works great and is very popular in my class.

FACILITATOR POST
Dear Christine Ponchant, ([Link]
It is with great pleasure to read your post Really, | find the use of games in the
classroom very important to teach [Link] helps to keep the attention of the
learners to the objectives of the lessons .
But, in addition to games,| think clues, flashcards and realia are more suitable to
teach vocabulary , because young learners mostly prefer to see and to touch in order
to learn as English is not spoken in the outside. Most of all, games besides songs
inspire and motivate students to learn more.
My best regards and respect.
Lahoucine AHCHOUCHE , AE-E teacher Alumni Facilitator.

Hi, Christine,
Thanks a lot for sharing your interesting and engaging activity. | will certainly try it with my
young learners. Using dictionaries is almost not used in our classes, however, some learners
do not know how to look up a dictionary, and that is why | find your activity meaningful.
