IoT Patient Health Monitoring System

This document describes an IoT-based patient health monitoring system that measures a patient's pulse rate and body temperature without visiting a clinic. It allows remote monitoring of vital signs to determine health status. The system uses sensors connected to an Arduino board and ESP8266 WiFi module to collect data and display it on an LCD screen. It provides advantages like low-cost home health checks, early disease detection, and improved medical care access and delivery. Potential applications include independent elderly monitoring and remote patient monitoring to reduce healthcare costs.

INTRODUCTION

❖ IoT is a technology which turns the very basic things around us into smart
objects.

❖ Health monitoring systems are one of the most notable applications of IoT.

❖ Patient Health monitoring using IoT is a technology to enable monitoring of

patients outside of conventional clinical settings (e.g. in the home)

❖ It allows patients to maintain independence, prevent complications, and

minimize personal costs.
OBJECTIVE
HEALTH MONITORING SYSTEM :-

The objective of this project is to determine the health of a patient with factors like pulse
rate and body temperature without visiting clinics.

❖ Heart rate and body temperature are one of the major factors which contribute in
determining a patient’s health.

❖ The normal pulse rate is 60 to 100 beats per minute and the normal body
temperature is 37 degree Celsius or 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit.
❖ In this project, we are taking the heart rate and
body temperature as input to determine patient’s
health by comparing it to the ideal numbers

❖ This project helps us to use technology and create a

significant change in medical sector without being
in clinical settings.
LITERATURE SURVEY

➔ This project helps in keeping a track of patient’s health using various

sensors.

➔ This project collect various data like pulse rate and body temperature
then display it on a LCD display.

➔ During covid-19 pandemic most of the people doesn’t feel safe while
going to hospitals for regular health check ups.
➔ It allows patients to maintain independence, prevent
complications, and minimize personal costs.

➔ The specialization of healthcare monitoring system for

elderly people is a growing need in the aging population
world.

➔ This project performs basic health check ups by

measuring body temperature and pulse rate regularly.

TOOLS USED

1) Arduino UNO R3 Atmega328

2) ESP 8266
3) LCD Display 16X2
4) Pulser sensor
5) Temperature sensor LM35
6) Resistors 1k and 2k Ohm
7) Breadboard
8) Jumper wires
ADVANTAGES AND APPLICATIONS

✓ Quick health check ups at home.

✓ Improved and better disease management.
✓ In critical cases, time will not be wasted in visiting a clinic.
✓ It is cost effective and helps in decreasing doctor fees and making
visits.
✓ Increased access to care and decreased healthcare delivery costs.
✓ Significantly improve an individual’s quality of life.
✓ It allows patients to maintain independence, prevent complications,
and minimize personal costs.
FUTURE SCOPE

❏ Integration of real time monitoring and other definite modules,

patients do not necessarily require to be under the hospital roof.
❏ In future doctor’s can maintain a complete database of their
patient’s health record which help them to understand one’s
medical history.
❏ The need for monitoring and sending the alert to the concerned
person along with the doctor, IoT home health monitoring devices
are increasing levels of independent health monitoring.
