Elastic Settlement Calculation Guide

The document provides information to calculate elastic settlement using Schmertmann's method for two given problems: 1) A circular footing 0.45m in diameter on a soil profile, applying a pressure of 600kPa. The soil profile consists of a GP layer underlain by SW. Settlement is calculated for the upper GP layer. 2) A rectangular footing with dimensions L=4m, B=2m. The soil consists of 3 given layers to different depths. Maximum settlement is to be calculated using Schmertmann's method for an applied pressure of 124kPa. Both problems provide soil properties and dimensions needed as inputs to Schmertmann's method to calculate the elastic settlement. Calcul

Question 2-Solution
For calculation of E from cone resistance there are multiple correlation available in literature. In this
example, we are considering Vesic correlation from literature .

If you have used any other correlation, there is no issue as long as you applied right units.

But in case you are working as consultant design engineer, you must use a well proven correlation.
