Cross Section Notes for Road Survey

1) The document provides instructions for surveying tasks related to route surveying including calculating slope stake positions and volumes using end area method from cross section notes. 2) It also includes calculating widths, cuts, and volumes between stations using prismoidal correction from given cross sections. 3) Finally, it asks to find a grade, fill area, and cut area between stations given center heights, slopes, and roadway widths.

ROUTE SURVEYING (ASSIGNMENT)

1. The cross section notes of the ground surface at sta. 1+200 of a road survey shows that the
ground is sloping at a 10% grade downward to the right. The elevation of the ground along the
center line of the proposed road at this station is 150m. and that of the finished subgrade is
152m. Width of the subgrade is 7.00m with side slopes of 1.5:1.

• Compute the distance of the right and left slope stake from the center of the road.

• Compute the in elevation of the right and left slope stake.

• If station 1+400 contains the same cross sectional detail, compute the volume between
the given station and sta. 1+400 using end area method.

2. From the given cross section of an earthwork between A (10+300) and B (10+330) assume both
have the same slope and width of base.

• Compute the width of the base.

• Compute the value of cut at sta. B if it has an area of 16.82 sq. m.

• Compute the volume between A and B with prismoidal correction.

3. From sta. 10+060, with the center height of 1.4m fill, the ground makes a uniform slope of 5% to
sta. 10+120 whose center height is 2.8m cut.

a. Find the grade of the finished road.

b. If the roadway for fill is 9m wide and the slope is 2:1, find the cross sectional area of the
fill at sta. 10+060 assuming that it is a level section.

c. If the roadway for cut is 10m. And the side slope is 1.5:1, find the cross sectional area
for cut at sta. 10+120 assuming that it is a level section.
