Biodiversity
- Is the variety of life. Most people
recognize biodiversity by species.
The biological species as members of
populations that actually or potentially interbreed in
nature, not according to similarity of appearance.
The biodiversity we see today is the fruit
of billions of years of evolution, shaped by natural
processes and, increasingly, by the influence of humans.
Biodiversity can be studied on many levels.
Species diversity is only one part of biodiversity.
Biodiversity also includes genetic
differences within each species for example, between
varieties of crops and breeds of livestock.
Yet another aspect of biodiversity is the
variety of ecosystem such as those that occur in deserts,
forests, wetlands, mountains, lakes, rivers, and
agricultural landscape.
