PSHS Requirement for Admission, Criteria and Evaluation (RACE)


of Grade 7 Applicants for SY 2021-2022

Instead of the usual NCE taken by aspiring students of PSHS, admissions shall be
through the PSHS Requirement for Admission, Criteria and Evaluation (RACE).

The Pisay RACE

1. The selection procedure for admission shall be conducted in two stages.


• STAGE 1: is based on determining the applicant’s predicted NCE grade (PNG)
which is based on final grades in Science and Mathematics.
• STAGE 2: is based on writing skills through a submission of essay and the
applicant’s academic rank at the end of Grade 5.

2. Grade 6 elementary pupils from a school duly recognized school by Department


of Education who meet the following criteria are eligible to apply for admission
in Grade 7 for SY 2021-2022.

Applicants must:
• have a final grade of 85% or better in Science and Mathematics,
evidenced by the report card. If the grades in Science or Mathematics are
below 85%, then, applicants must provide evidence that they belong to
the upper 10% of the batch;
• be a Filipino citizen with no pending or approved application as
immigrant to any foreign country;
• not be more than 15 years old by June 30, 2020;
• have at least a satisfactory rating (or its equivalent) in the Character
Rating reflected in the report card (SY 2019 - 2020);
• not have taken the PSHS NCE previously; and preferably, be in good
health and fit to undergo a rigorous academic program.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

• Two (2) identical recent 1x1 ID pictures
• Non-refundable test fee (for private school students — Php 300, for
public school students and indigent students from private schools —
Free). For online payment of examination fee, follow the Landbank
Linkbiz Portal payment guide.
• Certified true copy of report card (SY 2019 - 2020) by the class adviser
and principal
• If the final grades in Science or Math are below 85%, certification or
proof that the child belongs to the upper 10% of the batch
• If the pupil-applicant is on full scholarship in a private school, submit a
scholarship certification.

ADMISSION CRITERIA AND EVALUATION

1. Admission for SY 2021-22 will be based on the following:


• Predicted NCE Grade (PNG)
• Academic Rank in class
• Written Essay
2. Based on the PNG, PSHS shall invite the top candidates per campus to submit
proof of their class ranking and to participate in the second screening stage.
3. The number of top candidates to be invited per campus will be 160% of their
quota.
Stage 2 – Essay Writing and Academic Rank in Class
1. Top candidates to submit:
• academic rank in class at the end of their Grade 5
• an essay in English in order to test their writing skills. Candidates will be
given a fix time to submit an essay of up to 200 words thru e-mail or short
message service (SMS) submission.
2. Applicants will be ranked from highest to lowest based on their Final Score
(based on PNG, Rank, Essay).
3. The top 240 applicants are considered as the Principal Qualifiers of the PSHS-
Main Campus (MC). Due to ties in the national cut-off score, the list of PSHS-MC
Principal Qualifiers might be more than 240 examinees. In case there are too
many ties in the 240th place, the PSHS System Committee on Assessments will
evaluate and propose a scheme to address the matter.
4. Principal Qualifiers of PSHS-MC are given the chance to choose where to enroll,
the PSHS-MC or a Regional PSHS campus.
5. All remaining candidates will be ranked from highest to lowest by campus of
choice..
6. The top 90 or 120, depending on the quota of the PSHS campus, candidates in
the regional ranking are the Principal Qualifiers of the Regional Campuses. Due
to ties in the 90th or 120th place, the list of Principal Qualifiers might be more
than 90 or 120 examinees. In case there are too many ties in the 90th place, the
PSHS System Committee on Assessments will evaluate and propose a scheme to
address the matter.
7. The ranking of candidates below the 240th in the case of PSHS-MC, or below the
90th in the case of Regional Campuses whose quota is 90, or below the 120th in
the case of Regional Campuses whose quota is below 120 would be the Alternate
Qualifiers.
8. In case some Principal Qualifiers declined the scholarship, Alternate Qualifiers
will be called from highest to lowest.
9. In case more alternate qualifiers will be needed, a second round of Stage 2
screening will be performed to come up with alternate qualifiers.
10. In case some Principal Qualifiers declined the scholarship, Alternate Qualifiers
will be called from highest to lowest. In such a case, same process will be
implemented.
