of Wisconsin-Platteville where she teaches in its MS in Project Management Program,
for SKEMA Business School, France and RMIT in Melbourne, Australia in their doctoral
programs in project management. In consulting, she has served as Project Manager for
Fortune 500 and public sector clients, including Genentech, Cargill, Abbott Vascular,
UPS, Citibank, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, General Electric, SAP, EADS,
John Deere, Schreiber Foods, TRW, New York City Transit Authority, the U.S. Joint Forces
Command and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Prior to her work in consulting,
she held positions of increasing responsibility with the U.S. Government, including
the Federal Aviation Administration, Office of Personnel Management and the General
Accounting Office. Dr Levin is the editor of Program Management: A Life Cycle Approach
(2012), and author of Interpersonal Skills for Portfolio, Program, and Project Managers,

Dennis Lock is a writer specializing in project management. Early years as an electronics
engineer were followed by successful management posts in industries ranging from
defence to heavy machinery and mining. After occasional consultancy assignments, he
lectured on project management for several years in masters degree programs at two
British universities. Dennis is a Fellow of the Association for Project Management, Fellow
of the Institute of Management Services and a Member of the Chartered Management
Institute. He has written or edited over 60 books, mostly for Gower. His Project Management
(now in its tenth edition) has sold over 100,000 copies.

Mark Mullaly is a senior management consultant with over 25 years experience of
managing projects in a range of industries. Mark is also a well-recognized facilitator, and
leads the PM certificate programs offered by Executive Education at the University of
Alberta School of Business. He is a past-president of the PMI Northern Alberta Chapter.
Mark was co-lead investigator of the research project ‘Understanding The Value Of Project
Management’; sponsored in part by PMI, this was the largest research undertaking in the
PM field and has provided valuable insight into how project management delivers value
to organizations. Mark is currently pursuing a PhD at Bond University in Australia.

Ralf Müller is Professor of Project Management and Associate Dean at BI Norwegian Business
School in Norway. His principal research interests are in project leadership, governance,
PMOs and research methods. He is the author or coauthor of more than 140 publications.

Peerasit Patanakul is Associate Professor of Management, Black School of Business,
The Pennsylvania State University, Erie. His research interests include strategic project
management, project portfolio management and managing government projects. His

Ron Schipper is principal consultant at Van Aetsveld, a leading consulting firm in
project and change management. He has over 15 years experience as project manager
in realizing organizational change. In addition to executing projects, he is interested in
developing the profession of project managers and transferring this knowledge. With
sustainability as an emerging theme for the world and business organizations, Ron
advocates the opportunities and implications for projects and project management and

Stephen Simister is Associate Professor of Project and Program Management at Henley
Business School and Director, Oxford Management & Research Limited. His practice,
teaching, research and consultancy have focussed on project management for over 25
years. He has worked in most industry sectors, gaining a wide view of the subject in
terms of perspectives and contexts. He is a Chartered Project Management Surveyor with
the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), a Registered Project Professional
and Fellow of the Association of Project Management (APM) and a Professional in Value
Management with the Institute of Value Management (IVM). He is also an accredited
OGC Gateway Reviewer for UK government high risk projects and programs. He has
written and lectured extensively in a range of International forums, both at the academic

Gilbert Silvius is Professor at Utrecht University of Applied Sciences (HU) in the
Netherlands. He is program director of the Master of Project Management program at HU.
This program focuses on project management from an organizational change perspective
and has a special focus on the integration of the concepts of sustainability in Projects
and Project Management. Gilbert is also an experienced project manager with over 20

Jonas Söderlund is Professor at BI Norwegian Business School and a founding member of
KITE at Linköping University. He has researched and published widely on the management
and organization of projects and project-based firms, time and knowledge integration in

Aaron Shenhar is a professor and educator of project management, the first recipient of
the PMI Research Achievement Award and IEEE’s Engineering Manager of the Year Award.
Following a career in defence, he became a tenured professor, building several academic
programs in project and technology management. His research is used in the curriculum
of many corporate and university programs throughout the world. His book, Reinventing
Project Management, HBSP was among the best five business books of 2007. He is currently
CEO of The SPL Group, a consulting and education firm focusing on aligning business

Willie Tan is an editor of Journal of Spatial Science and Editorial Board member of
International Journal of Project Management (among others). He is also the Director of
the MSc (Project Management) program at National University of Singapore, where he
was formerly the Vice Dean and Director of the Center for Project Management and
Construction Law. Dr Tan specializes in geodesy (particularly ill-posed inverse problems)
and project finance. He has published widely and is the author of several books in project
finance and research methods. He has served as a consultant to public and private sector
organizations in Asia and the Middle East.

Janice Thomas has 30 years of experience in the project management field as
a practitioner, researcher and educator. She is the author of four books and over 100
conference, practitioner or academic articles. From 2004 to 2008 she co-led PMI’s
largest ever, ground-breaking research into the Value of Project Management. In 2006,
she was recognized as one of the 25 most influential women in project management
by PMNetwork and in 2010, Janice was awarded the Research Achievement Award by
the Project Management Institute as ‘an individual who has significantly advanced the
concepts, knowledge, and/or practices of project management’.
