DWH vs OLTP: Key Differences Explained

The document compares and contrasts online transaction processing (OLTP) and data warehousing (DWH) across several dimensions including scope, data perspective, types of queries, and processing time. It notes that OLTP is focused on current detailed customer data and transactions, while DWH contains compiled and summarized historical data from multiple sources used for analysis. Processing times are faster for OLTP which operates in seconds, while DWH takes minutes to hours to process more complex queries against larger datasets.

Quiz No 1:

Q: Explain difference of DWH and OLTP in following dimensions :

Ans: Scope:-

· It controls the rules and controls the data needed to improve the business good and bad business.
As it contains a lot of information it says how to develop a particular business.

· Customer-focused database used by staff. OLTP is a collection of materials used to retrieve data,
convert, and access data.

· It has some functionality as it has only one type of transaction system that enables transactions
and stores or returns transaction information.

· It uses a lot of information as a network that can probably be used to make online transactions. It
does not improve it.

· A market-focused database used by management in the decision-making process.

· Its application is used for a variety of applications with different systems as it is able to perform
several functions and therefore is neutral.

· It is the only source of truth as no other database interaction is involved because DWH is a type
of data itself.

· It changes over time as new data is added to the database which is why the data changes over
time.

Data Perspective:-
· The information contained in the transaction database is current and detailed.

· As all data comes from transactions so the performance data also has no summary.

· It is a completely normal detail to make compliance or reduction to be normal or normal.

· The database contains compiled and summarized historical data.

· Data in DW comes from a variety of different data sources in the environment.

· Data is designed to improve database readability performance, compensate for loss of specific
writing performance, by adding multiple copies of data or by collecting data.

Queries:-
· DW details can be processed through complex questions.

· Uses key a very small number of times.

· It accomplishes a large number of results which are in thousands.

· OLTP queries are based on a key as it uses the key to obtain data related to that key.

· The results are below than the DW and are hundreds.

Time:-
· At DWH speed is less and it takes minutes to hours to process data.

· The creation and operation of Data Warehouse is certainly a confusing time.

· Availability time is also shorter than oltp, because the speed is lower.
· The OLTP project is as fast as a few seconds because it has some particular functionality so its
availability is long due to its high speed and efficiency.
