Project Scope Statement

Project: Wilmont’s Pharmacy Case Revision No.: A

Revision Date: Nov 21, 2020

Purpose: Wilmont’s engaged in several innovative business practices, and now they are secretly
considering breaking ground with an even newer concept, delivery of prescription and drugstore items
by flying drones, to keep them ahead of the competition and continue being a top ranked US pharmacy

Project Goals:

• DroneTech will handle piloting the drones and delivery of the products.
• Interface to Wilmont’s enhanced online order entry process that will allow customers in the San
Francisco area to register their willingness to have a drone deliver their orders by means of
online entry or smartphone entry.
• Interface communications about deliveries for Wilmont’s customers electronically through
email, online, and through mobile alerts as the customer requests.
• Ensure that the relationship between DroneTech and Wilmont’s does not compromise the
security of Wilmont’s business information, the customer’s privacy and the proprietary
information about how Wilmont’s will use the drones for delivery.
• identify what modifications to the drone flight operations will be necessary and then determine
the team members in the final project planning.

Project Scope Description:

• Product Scope – Dronetech will provide the drone technology and auxiliary systems to meet
Wilmont’s needs.
• Services Scope - Dronetech will supply the drone piloting and delivery systems but will
customize its systems and business process to conform to Wilmont’s requirements. It will used
in only 4 stores in San Francisco

Primary Deliverables:

• Drone technology for delivery of prescriptions

• Develop the interface to Wilmont’s online system
• Ensure that the relationship between DroneTech and Wilmont’s does not compromise the
security of Wilmont’s business information
Deliverable Acceptance Criteria:

• The drones are fully capable of transporting and delivering the goods to the correct
client in a safe way
• Smooth and invisible interface between Wilmont’s and Dronetech for clients
• No sensible information from Wilmont’s is being shared with 3rd parties

Key Milestones: The project begins next January 5. The first customer delivery flight should take
place no later than November 30

Constraints: Adapt a temperature‐controlled product bagging system along with a bubble‐type

cushioning system for the customer delivery packaging in order to ensure that certain temperature‐
sensitive or breakable items are not affected by the delivery process There will be significant restrictions
on the approval of customers for this service, so there will need to be a segment of the process to allow
Wilmont’s management to approve the customer, send a confirmation to the customer, etc.

Wilmont’s has limited the project expenditures to a maximum of US$1,750,000 for this prototype
project

Assumptions: based on some customized work that was done before with another customer for small
package delivery, the Sponsor determined that the project should likely come well under a total of
$750,000, so he gave that initial figure to Wilmont’s last week

Scope Exclusions: System and business processes under Wilmont’s management

The anticipated constraints and challenges include adapting a temperature-controlled product bagging system along with a bubble-type cushioning system to protect temperature-sensitive or breakable items during delivery. Furthermore, there will be significant restrictions on the approval of customers for the service, necessitating a segment of the process for customer management and confirmation. Financial constraints are also a concern, as the project expenditures are capped at $1,750,000, despite initial estimates suggesting costs should remain well under $750,000 .

Modifications required for successful drone flight operations include implementing a temperature-controlled bagging system with cushioning to protect delicate or temperature-sensitive items during transit. Additionally, operations need to account for specific airspace regulations in San Francisco and adapt delivery routes accordingly. Integration with Wilmont's order system to facilitate seamless communication and delivery tracking is also necessary .

The success of the drone technology and its integration will be evaluated based on criteria such as the drones' capability to safely transport and deliver goods correctly to clients. Additionally, the interface between Wilmont’s and DroneTech must be smooth and unobtrusive for clients. No sensitive information from Wilmont’s should be shared with third parties, ensuring data security and privacy. These criteria ensure both the functional performance and security of the system .

The relationship between DroneTech and Wilmont’s is structured such that DroneTech provides the piloting of drones and delivery systems while customizing its systems to meet Wilmont's requirements. The project includes developing an interface with Wilmont’s online system to facilitate communication about deliveries. Both parties aim to ensure the relationship does not compromise business information security, customer privacy, or proprietary delivery methods, adhering to defined deliverables and acceptance criteria .

The financial assumptions, including the initial cost estimation of under $750,000, impact the project's feasibility as they dictate budget allocation and project scope. If the total project expenses exceed the $1,750,000 cap, it may necessitate adjusting scope or scaling back plans to manage costs. Financial constraints could limit the extent of the service's rollout or the speed of implementation, impacting the project's overall success and return on investment .

The project timeline for the drone delivery system is structured to ensure timely implementation by setting clear milestones. The project begins on January 5, with the first customer delivery flight scheduled for no later than November 30. This timeline allows sufficient time for the development and testing of the systems necessary for successful project completion within the stated timeframe .

The introduction of drone delivery aligns with Wilmont’s Pharmacy's business goals by reinforcing its position as an innovative leader in the pharmacy industry. It capitalizes on emerging technologies to provide superior delivery services, enhancing customer experience and attracting tech-savvy consumers. This move is designed to differentiate Wilmont’s from competitors, potentially increasing market share and customer loyalty through enhanced service offerings .

As an early adopter of drone delivery services, Wilmont’s Pharmacy could gain significant strategic advantages such as increased brand reputation as an innovator, attracting a tech-savvy customer base. It could set industry standards for delivery efficiency and customer service. Furthermore, by leading the market in drone delivery implementation, Wilmont’s can leverage this service to enhance operational efficiency and create a competitive edge over traditional delivery models .

To ensure the security of its business information and customer privacy, Wilmont’s Pharmacy intends to maintain strict control over the proprietary information concerning drone use. The plan includes ensuring that the interface communications about deliveries for customers are managed electronically through secure channels like email and mobile alerts. Additionally, it is crucial that the relationship with DroneTech does not compromise the security of Wilmont's business information or customer privacy .

Wilmont’s Pharmacy is considering the implementation of drone delivery services primarily to maintain its innovative business practices, stay ahead of the competition, and continue being a top-ranked US pharmacy. The innovative step of using drones for delivery aims to enhance their service proposition by offering a new method of delivering prescriptions and drugstore items directly to customers, thereby improving customer convenience and satisfaction .
