PORNOGRAPHY (page 97)
I. Pornography Addiction and Its Effects- It used to be easy for parents to monitor the kind of
things that their children watched or were exposed to, but nowadays kids have all these mobile
devices with high-speed internet connections at their fingertips thus there is virtually no barrier
between them and porn. According to psychotherapists, this exposure is a serious issue as it could
be presenting them with a false image of sexuality. Porn is a fantasy no different from most of the
fantasies displayed in various sci-fi and epic movies. For many young people whose only
understanding of sexuality is what they see online, experts say it can create a distorted vision of
intimacy, making it nearly impossible to maintain a real romantic relationship.
Pornography: A Public Health Crisis -The pornography of today has created an unprecedented
epidemic of sexual harm. Children and young people are being exposed to violent and degrading
content, which by default has served as their sex education. Once a social or health issue involves
problems that affect individuals or groups beyond their capacity to correct – responsibility shifts
from individual accountability to holding the forces and influences that cause it accountable.
While educating individual parents to guide and protect their children is always part of any
prevention plan, the problem is well beyond what individual parents and children can do to
protect themselves.
II. Pornography changes the habits of the mind, the inner private self. Its use can easily become
habitual, which in turn leads to desensitization, boredom, distorted views of reality, and an
objectification of women. There are also numerous clinical consequences to pornography use,
including increased risk for significant physical and mental health problems and a greater
likelihood of committing a sex-based crime. Pornography significantly distorts attitudes and
perceptions about the nature of sexual intercourse. Men who habitually look at pornography have
a higher tolerance for abnormal sexual behaviors, sexual aggression, promiscuity, and even rape.
Addictive pornography use leads to lower self-esteem and a weakened ability to carry out a
meaningful social and work life.
III. Homosexuality can be a source of pleasure, and pleasure is a good thing. Too often we act as if
pleasure needs to be “justified” by some extrinsic reason, and we feel guilty when we pursue it
for its own sake. It can be an avenue of interpersonal communication, and this too is good. And
also can be a source of emotional growth. Romantic and sexual relationships force us to get
outside of ourselves in a powerful way. They foster sensitivity, patience, humility, generosity —
a whole host of moral virtues. Homosexual relationships promote personal and social stability.
This is why people in relationships frequently live longer, report greater personal satisfaction, and
are physically and psychologically healthier than their single counterparts.
ORGAN TRAFFICKING AND HUMAN NEEDS (page 129)
Step 1: Determine your involvement in the moral situation
I think the right to decide if I’m going to sell or donate my kidney is to the people who really
need it.

Step2: Gather all the necessary facts

 In the Philippines illegal trafficking is prohibited by law
 One organs is equivalent to hundreds of cash
 Kidney donor are insufficient around the world

Step 3: Identify the stakeholders

There are lot of people who are affected in my decision, most apparently my parents, my friends,
relatives and lovedones.

Step 4: Name all the alternative choices possible and their potential effects on all stakeholders
 If it happens, the potential effects on all stakeholders are that some of them will be benefited and
some of them are not, it is difficult for them to think well in donating organ.
 Surgeries are not 100% successful in doing the process of operations.
 Some stakeholders have a waiver to sign if they are willing to donate organs or not.

Step 5: Identify the type of ethical issue at hand

It is hard to find a donor or a seller of a kidney, because nowadays people only want to live
normal. But on the other hand there are people who are willing to donate or sell their organs because of
financial problems.

Step 6: Make your ethical conclusion or decision

For me as a person / student I will not sell my kidney. Kidneys are important to everyone; we
cannot live a normal life without a single piece on us. There are many reasons why I don’t want to sell my
kidney. One is that it is illegal to the Philippines and it is given by God completely, so I will going to take
care of it. I can earn money in different ways that is not illegal. I can help other people who are in needs
by helping them to find donors that are willing to help also. Selling organs are not the reason to become
rich.

Pleasure in romantic and sexual relationships is considered a positive force that contributes to personal development. It is seen as beneficial because it promotes interpersonal communication, emotional growth, and moral virtues like sensitivity, patience, and generosity. Homosexual and other relationships that incorporate pleasure can enhance personal and social stability, leading to greater life satisfaction and health compared to remaining single. These benefits highlight how pleasure within relationships can be constructive for both personal and social well-being .

Organ trafficking underscores the tension between legal obligations and moral considerations by presenting a scenario where legal frameworks prohibit the sale of organs, as seen in the Philippines, but moral dilemmas arise from the desperate circumstances of individuals in need or in poverty. While legal systems aim to prevent exploitation and ensure ethical medical practices, individuals facing financial crises may feel morally justified in selling their organs. The issue highlights the complexity of aligning laws with human needs and ethical beliefs .

The claim that romantic relationships contribute to longer life expectancy and overall well-being is supported by evidence indicating that emotional support, companionship, and shared responsibilities in relationships can reduce stress and promote healthier lifestyles. Studies suggest that people in stable relationships report higher levels of personal satisfaction and are generally physically and psychologically healthier than singles. These relationships provide an environment that fosters well-being through mutual care, emotional communication, and psychological stability, aligning with broader health and social research observations .

Parents can adopt several strategies to mitigate the negative impacts of pornography on their children, including engaging in open and honest conversations about sexuality and the unrealistic portrayals in pornography. Implementing parental controls and monitoring internet usage can help, but given the pervasive digital landscape, fostering critical thinking and media literacy is crucial. Encouraging healthy discussions about relationships, respect, and consent can equip children with the tools to navigate and critically assess the content they encounter online .

The discussion on pleasure in both heterosexual and homosexual relationships challenges traditional views on sexuality by asserting that pleasure is a valid and beneficial aspect of human relationships. This shifts the traditional perspective that often seeks extrinsic justification for pleasure, suggesting instead that it inherently contributes to personal and social development. By highlighting the positive moral virtues fostered by pleasure in relationships, the discussion broadens the acceptance of diverse sexual orientations and underscores the significance of mutual satisfaction and emotional growth .

Habitual use of pornography can alter personal relationships and social behavior by creating unrealistic expectations of intimacy, which can complicate real romantic relationships. It may lead to desensitization and the objectification of women, as well as increased tolerance for abnormal sexual behaviors, which can harm relationships. This use may also diminish self-esteem and the ability to engage meaningfully in social or work life, as individuals may become more isolated and less engaged in reality-based interactions .

Organ trafficking presents an ethical challenge by involving the illegal sale and donation of organs, often driven by financial desperation. Key stakeholders include potential donors, recipients, healthcare providers, and policymakers. Ethical considerations include legality, the health risks associated with donation, consent, and the impact on all involved parties. There is concern about exploitation and the moral implications of profiting from human body parts. The act of selling organs is prohibited in places like the Philippines, reflecting the legal and ethical stance against monetizing human organs .

Exposure to pornography can significantly impact young people's perceptions of sexuality and intimate relationships by presenting a skewed and often unrealistic image of human intimacy. As their main source of sexual education, pornography may lead them to develop distorted views that normalize aggression, objectification, and unrealistic sexual expectations. This influences their ability to maintain healthy and respectful intimate relationships. Over time, it can alter their understanding of consent and mutual respect within a partnership .

Experts assert that pornography creates an unprecedented epidemic of sexual harm, especially among children and young people who are exposed to violent and degrading content. This exposure acts as their de facto sex education, leading to a distorted understanding of sexuality that impacts relationships and attitudes towards intimacy. Pornography is said to change mental habits, leading to desensitization, boredom, distorted views of reality, and objectification of women. Additionally, habitual use is linked to increased risks of physical and mental health problems and a greater likelihood of criminal sexual behavior .

The philosophical argument regarding the intrinsic value of kidneys posits that organs hold an innate worth beyond monetary value because they are essential for human life and are often regarded as gifts of nature or God. The ethical implications of selling kidneys include potential exploitation of individuals in economic need, reduction of organs to mere commodities, and the legal ramifications in places where organ selling is prohibited. Ethical decisions emphasize the necessity to respect human life and dignity, advocating for legal and altruistic means of organ donation .
