Soil Treatment Evaluation Methods
Soil Treatment Evaluation Methods
Mixing sand soil with organically modified clay is expected to increase the volume by 10%. For an area of 1.5 m x 1.5 m treated to a depth of 2 m, the original volume is 4.5 cubic meters. A 10% volume increase results in an additional 0.45 cubic meters, raising the elevation by 0.3 meters across the area .
The expected subsidence is calculated based on the porosity of the soil and the volume of the treated area. With a porosity of 0.25, and knowing the treatment depth is 2 m for an area of 1.5 m x 1.5 m, the total volume is 4.5 cubic meters. The void volume (porosity) is 1.125 cubic meters. After treatment, this volume compacts, so the expected subsidence equals the compaction of this void: 1.125 meters .
