Aha! That was the sound of me entering, which means it is time for me to introduce myself. I am Ms.
Zimmerle and today we are going to focus on a question that we have all thought about or asked at some
point in time. How does math actually apply to my life? We will be addressing a statistical reasoning
standard ([Link].1) that applies the statistical method to real-world situations. There are two branches
of statistical methods, and they are descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. I am going to pose some
data from my observations at a dog park the other day, and you are going to make inferences based on my
descriptive statistics. I noticed that there were four brown dogs and four white dogs, but only half of them
were in the large dog section. There are only 2 sections, and each section had an equal number of brown
dogs and white dogs. Based on the descriptive statistics given, what can you infer about the number and
color of the dogs in the large dog section? Once you form an answer, begin thinking about a real-world
scenario where you are able to apply the statistical method and be ready to ask questions and share it in
class!
