Auditory learners resort more to learning by ear. These learners process information easily by
hearing rather than reading. By knowing how a student learns confidently, a teacher can make
sure to mold their lessons plans to the best way possible, especially for an ELL student. For an
ELL student who best preforms with audio, the teacher can use open ended class discussions for
the student to participate and hear other ideas to store in their memory. It is also a good idea to
put auditory learners closer to the front of the classroom and away from distractions so their
focus can be on you, the teacher. By reading aloud all directions, stories and creating discussions
benefits the auditory learners. As a teacher good examples of helping those types of learners are
by calling on them to answer questions aloud. The teacher should create lesson plans that include
a social element.
Part 2: CONCEPTUAL
Conceptual understanding is when children can grasp ideas in a transferrable way. It can help
students take what they learn in class and apply it across domains without needing real-life
application to understand the concept. By constructing theories and ideas, these types of learners
are able to grasp onto the concept being taught. These students prefer reading, writing and
analyzing strategies. For example, learners like this enjoy discovering why a formula in math
works and the theory behind it.

Part 3: VERBAL
A verbal learner has trouble positioning things in space. They prefer to learn through verbal
and language skills to grasp concepts. For an ELL student, using verbal teaching and writing
activities will help the student grasp the current curriculum better. As a teacher, asking the
students to discuss and present aloud will help to grow their minds. Role-playing is a good way
to get the children to interact with each other. It can help the new ELL student become
comfortable in the new school and classroom.

Part 4: SOCIAL
A social learner prefers to work directly with classmates and instructors. These learners are
very socially comfortable, and people orientated. By learning in pairs or with their peers, these
learners grasp concepts easily. For an ELL student, working in pairs and hearing different ideas
will help grow their education. This will also allow them to be interactive with their classmates
and make more friends who are like them.

Part 5: CREATIVE
Creative learners use their imagination and innovation to learn. They are not afraid to take
risks with their mind and they prefer to learn through discovery and experimentation. As a
teacher of an ELL student, it would be a great idea to incorporate some type of art or music into
the program. A good rhythm or fun video will make things so much easier for the children to
remember. Having the children work creatively with their mind will also give them free reign on
how to remember things best for themselves.
