Student Perception on Mathematics Sampling

The document describes a stratified random sampling plan to investigate students' perceptions of mathematics. The population of 5,500 students is divided into four strata based on academic year, with proportions allocated from each stratum. Using stratified random sampling and a sample size of 500 students, the researcher would select 145 students from the first year stratum, 136 from the second year, 127 from the third year, and 91 from the fourth year.

ACTIVITY 3
(Sampling 1)

A researcher would like to investigate the perception of students on

mathematics.  He divided the population into sub-populations as shown in the table.
Use stratified random sampling if the sample to be drawn consists of 500 students.

Strata Number of Percent Proportional Equal

Students Allocation Allocation
First Year 1600 1600/5500 0.2909(500) 500/4
=29.09% = 145.45 = 125
Second Year 1500 1500/5500 0.2727(500) 125
= 27.27% = 136.35
Third Year 1400 1400/5500 0.2546(500) 125
= 25.46% = 127.3
Fourth Year 1000 1000/5500 0.1818(500) 125
= 18.18% = 90.9
Total 5500 100% 500 500
