Personal Statement
I am driven by the desire to seek knowledge in various fields to know something in everything and work
in different sectors. I hold a Bachelors Degree from the faculty of Human Science that involves some
introductory subjects such as Introduction to Communication, Introduction to Sociology, Introduction to
Psychology, Introduction to Political Science and introduction to History. Nevertheless I have specialized
in Communication. I studied in international Islamic University Malaysia. This is one of the best
Universities in Malaysia. I obtained honours in the field of communication. I spent 7 years in this
country during which I worked as a part time facilitator under the student development division. Apart
from that I taught in a college known as Twintech college based on a three months contract as an
English teacher. During my studies in this University I have joined certain co-curriculae activities and
some community service such as swimming class, attending conferences and seminars and also home
stay services.
My Elementary Schools, Senior and Junior Schools were attended in different countries, however
completed it in my home country the Gambia. I attended my first grade in the United States and 6 grade
in The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The rest of the grades in Elementary school were completed in The
Gambia and I was appraised as hardworking . Apart from that, during my elementary schools I have
joined Associations like girls guide association and have learnt about responsibility and social
relationship. My junior and Senior Schools were attended in the Gambia. I obtained a division II in my
junior school and this involves Five credit and 3 passes in 8 subjects. And in my senior obtained I
obtained 4 credit 1 pass and 2 not indicated. After my senior High-school I studied some Computer
Science class less than a year and was able to get a certificate.
During my studies I was considered a very hard working diligent and intelligent students and I was also
involved in school sporting activities such as running and volleyball. I have more than 3 years work
experience. Apart from teaching I worked as a customer service assistant and call center agent in a
private company in the Gambia. I facilitated student in my University for co-curricular activity. I am
currently working as a Science and Technology Officer at the Department of Science Technology and
Innovation at Ministry of Higher Education Research Science Technology in the Gambia.
As English is not my native language, I sat to test skills in reading speaking and listening and writing
upon enrolment in my first University, international Islamic University Malaysia. This is a requirement
for all non-native English speakers enrolled. After one semester I successfully resumed in the faculty
of Human Science, with a score of 6.5 in all of speaking listening and writing and a 7.5 in reading. In
addition I score and A- in introduction to Communication.
Apart from that, I have covered two English Courses under my program as it is among the language
course requirements. Such as English for academic purpose (LEAGUE 4000) and English for
occupational course (LE4500). I score grade B in LE 4000 and B+ in LE 4500 respectively. These two
subjects have reinforced my language ability in English.
More over I develop interest in innovation, this entails new knowledge and new ideas in our profession
of leadership strategic development. The fact that I started working in department of Science
Technology and innovation I felt the need to study Masters in Biotechnology. And especially the fact
that our country need development in the area of renewable energy and we need to extend our
knowledge in the area of technology to address the issue if eventing our own renewable energy.
Biomass and biogas and other energy storage are not implemented or serious intervention are not
observed in these areas. Other technology are now being observed however it requires some
advancement. This could only be achieved through a thorough knowledge in biotechnology. Because I
would like to add value to our department ; Department of Science Technology and Innovations geared
towards development of our country.
