M2: VIDEO ANALYSIS

Dear Children and Grandchildren

I am writing this letter to give you a perspective of what the past has done in
making the future you are living. Right now, its 2020 and the world is in shambles. We
have not prioritized our environment despite the warnings that we are running out of
time to do so. Many people are destroying the environment by polluting our soil, air, and
rivers and that we produced things only to throw them away. We are living in an
uncertain time with an unprecedented event, the world is changing and it is not what I
imagine it to be.

The ocean is crucial to our ecosystem and it is being severely damaged at an

alarmingly increasing rate. Oceans are being polluted by plastics and marine life is the
majority of the affected. We have become monsters, demolishing what matters to us
most. Over the past few decades, the amount of ocean pollution has rapidly increased
and turtles are dying from consuming human waste. The current situation of the bodies
of water is widely being ignored and dismissed and I think people should recognize this.

Because of climate change, wildfires are getting worse. Weather conditions are
growing more extreme, and for years, the fires have been starting earlier in the season
and spreading with greater intensity. In 2019 Amazon rainforest fires burned more than
7 million hectares in Brazil also, in California, which is known for its deadly wildfires, just
over 100,000 hectares burned in 2019, and about 404,680 hectares in 2018. Lastly is in
2020 more than 7.3 million hectares have been burned across Australia's six states.

Can you imagine that right now we are facing a global pandemic and I am
currently quarantined because the country is in a total crisis? Individuals are distancing
themselves from one another, and panicking about what the future may hold. Over
200,000 cases are confirmed right now in the Philippines and the wearing of face masks
and face shields on public remains mandatory. It was the first serious crisis that I had
experienced so tangibly. We were barely allowed to leave our homes and simple
hygiene like frequent hand wash, have been advised to reduce the risk of infection.
Diseases are spreading drastically because of people who are disobedient and self-
centered, citizens don't know how to be responsible, not only in following rules for our
safety but also in keeping nature healthy.

The world grapples with the public health emergency and economic crisis from
the coronavirus disease. Hospital workers are very prone to mental health issues,
citizens are stuck at home, and the country's economy is going down, this leads to
psychological distress include boredom, frustration, inadequate supplies, limited
information, and financial loss, and that these effects can linger long afterlife returns to
normal. Psychological problems like depression, anxiety, and panic disorder because of
the COVID-19 pandemic has caused severe threats to the lives and physical health of
people around the globe.

But in the midst of all this is a better tomorrow. Social distancing standards have
given the Earth a well-needed break and people learned how to be flexible. I hope we
use this crisis as an opportunity to make a fresh start into a sustainable society. My
dream for the world is to become more peaceful. The world is a beautiful place that
needs to focus on taking care of in the process. To take care of this Earth means to cut
down on how we live, cherish what we have, realize what we need to do to last until
tomorrow. I hope that we’ve saved our environment enough for your future, I hope you
are enjoying the beautiful places this world has to offer and that you are doing your part
to take care of it too. I hope that you have shared similar experiences to mine. That
there are still large blue oceans for you to swim in. Mountains for you to climb. Trees for
you to breathe fresh air. I hope that your generation does what previous generations
could not and take care of this beautiful planet.
