Equivalent Resistance of Resistors

Three 100-ohm resistors are connected in two parallel branches, with one resistor in each branch, and the two parallel branches are connected in series. The equivalent resistance of each parallel branch is 50 ohms. The total resistance of the two parallel branches in series is 150 ohms, which is the equivalent resistance of the overall circuit.

Three 100-ohms resistors are connected in series-parallel. What is the equivalent resistance?

A. 300 ohms B. 150 ohms C. 67 ohms D. none of these

Given:

R1 = 100 ohms R3 = 100 ohms

R2 = 100 ohms

Required:

Equivalent Resistance

Solution:

Equivalent resistance of the two resistors in parallel,

1 1
R4 = = =50 ohms
1 1 1 1
+ +
R1 R2 100 100

Total resistance in series,

RT =R3 + R4 =100 ohms+50 ohms

RT =150 ohms

Therefore, the answer is B. 150 ohms
