Solution 1

Franchise 1,000,000
Computer software 1,500,000
Patent 2,500,000
Customer list purchased 500,000
Copyright 700,000
Excess of cost over fair value of identifiable net
assets of acquired subsidiary 4,000,000
Trademark 900,000
11,100,000

Solution 2

Legal fees and other costs associated with registration 300,000

The cost of litigation, whether successful or not, should be treated as

outright expense because such cost would only maintain and not
enhance the originally assessed future benefits.

Solution 3

Cost - January 1, 2015 5,400,000

Amortization for 2015 and 2016 (5,400,000/6 * 2) -1,800,000
Carry Amount - January 1, 2017 3,600,000
Amortization for 2017 (3,600,000/20) 180,000

Solution 4

Cost - January 1, 2014 7,140,000

Amortization for 2014, 2015, 2016
(7,140,000/ 15 * 3) -1,428,000
Carrying Amount - January 1, 2017 5,712,000
Amortization for 2017 (5,712,000/7) -816,000
Carrying Amount - December 31, 2017 4,896,000

Solution 5

The legal life of trademark is 10 years may be renewed

every 10 years.

Considering the almost automatic renewal of a trademark,

the trademark can be clasified as an intangible asset with
indefinite life.

Accordingly, the cost of trademark is not amortized but tested

for impairment at least annually.
