BINAN CELEBRATES 9TH PUTO LATIK FESTIVAL

Binan, the City of Life, once again had a victorious moment as it celebrated it’s annual
Puto Latik Festival last May 15-23 with the theme ‘Makiisa…Makisaya…Makisayaw.’ The 9-
day celebration of the town fiesta was filled with diverse and innovative activities which are
much awaited, not just by the Binanense, but also by tourists every year.
Originally celebrated every first week of February since 2011, the highlight of the festival
was to commemorate the world-renowned Puto Binan, a rice cake delicacy and the traditional
Maglalatik dance which originated from Binan. However, due to the historical significance of the
Maglalatik to the celebration of Binan’s patron saint San Isidro Labrador, the festival shall be
celebrated every May 15-23, which began last 2017 up to this day.
The city is best known for a type of pancake made from grinded rice, and eggs mixed
with water, which is then pampered with cheese or butter, other variations may include sliced
salted egg on top of it (Puto Binan). It’s contrasting flavors of sweetness and saltiness makes
Puto Binan unique and incomparable among the others. Maglalatik Dance on the other hand is an
indigenous dance performed by the use of coconuts plastered on the hands and vests of the
dancers. It is performed as homage to San Isidro Labrador..
Commencing the celebration is the feast of San Isidro Labrador, wherein Karakol ng
Reyna ng Binan took place from Dela Paz Church followed by the opening ceremonies at Plaza
Rizal. Just like the past celebrations, various activities were planned to ensure the nine days of
fun and feast for the locals and tourists alike, activities such as: Mister and Miss Binan 2019,
Puto Binan 2.0, Street Dancing and Land Float Competition, talent contests, sports events,
cultural shows, exhibition, and costume parades.
Apart from that, job fairs, forums, and health caravans also took place which are
sponsored and supported by government organizations. The celebration ended through a
Thanksgiving Mass in Honor of San Isidro Labrador, as well as the eminent Binan Grand Santa
Cruzan. The festivity aims on promoting cultural heritages through various activities which
doesn’t just cater entertainment, but also targeting cultural, civic and public services
Actively participating at Puto Latik Festival provides an interactive way to fully
submerge on the town’s culture and heritage, but it not just offers a fun way to experience Binan
more, but it also increases the town’s tourism and generates good traffic which is good for the
town’s economic status. Experience Binan and discover the astounding profusion of the town’s
identity which is embedded on their culture, people, talents, and products.
