Interview Mistakes: Erick's Experience

Erick interviewed for a management position two weeks ago but had not received a call back. Upon reflection, he realized several issues with how he presented himself at the interview: [1] He wore baggy pants and forgot to remove a tongue ring, [2] his shirt was not properly ironed, and [3] his hair coloring may have been too much. Additionally, [3] his only work experience was as a buser at a restaurant, yet he expected to move directly into management, which likely surprised the interviewer. To improve his chances of getting the job, Erick should have dressed more professionally and been better prepared to discuss his qualifications for the management role.

Activity 2: Case Study

Don’t call us

Erick was wondering why he had not heard from the company he had
interviewed with two weeks ago. He thought the interview had gone well, but he
reflected on it he began to have doubts. Maybe his normal assertive behavior was not
considered as being knowledgeable or authoritative. He tried to make an impact, but
perhaps it was not appropriate. He remembered how the interviewer had looked at him
as they shook hands. Erick wore “Baggies“ and had forgotten to remove the ring from
his tongue, his shirt was not properly ironed and his hair coloring may have been too
much.

rank.
