On-the-job training is one of the best training methods for
the reason that it is premeditated, organized and conducted at
the employee's worksite. OJT will normally be the major method
used for broadening employee skills and increasing productivity.
It is particularly appropriate for developing expertise skills
unique to an employee’s job, especially jobs that are relatively
easy to learn and require locally owned equipment and facilities.

Morale, productivity and professionalism will normally be

high in those organizations that utilize a sound OJT program. An
analysis of the major job requirements and related knowledge,
skills and abilities form the basis for setting up an OJT plan.

It also helps the students to acquire relevant knowledge

and skills by performing in actual work setting. For the
students, an OJT or internship program provides opportunities to
go through the actual methodologies of a specific job using the
real tools, equipments and documents. In effect, the workplace
becomes a development venue for a student trainee to learn
more about her chosen field and practice what she has learn
from academy.
OJT is dependent upon the trainer having sufficient
knowledge and expertise to impart to the trainee. OJT is
significant and the quality of OJT can be considerably improved
through valuable mean.

November 22, 2010 it was the first day of my on-the job

training at Ford Motors Company Philippines. I was tense
because I did not know what to expect with the department that
I will be assign and with the work that I will do.

I was assigned to the IT Department which our Dean

required. When I came inside the office of the department, I was
conscious because it was a new environment for me. I did not
know how to react and I do not even know the people in the
office. I was just quite and tame. Later, Mr. De Leon, our
supervisor oriented me on the things that I should remember
while I was in the company. We had a little talk about our
personal lives then after that he introduced me to his other co-
workers.

The members of the IT Department were Sir Eric Lim the

manager of IT, Sir Jojo Borje the supervisor, Sir Michael De Leon
the system/SILAS administrator (network, server, eTracker) and
his my trainor, Sir Henry Villegas web and local administrator
(EDPR, PANDA, PDMS), Sir Aris Buenavedes for the financial
systems (QAD and Purchasing)
and the only girl in the IT Department Ms. Kristine Bongcayao
she is the production support system (CMMS and QAD
Productions).

November 23, 2010 is the second day of my OJT. I’m still

adjusting with the working environment I had. My boss and Ms.
Ann helped me feel comfortable with the working place.

Ms. Ann trained me how to use the copier machine, the

printer, the scanner and also how to use the phone. Moreover,
since i was in IT Department, Ms. Ann taught me how to use the
outlook were all the requests and update are there and all the
meeting notice was there.

On the next day, November 24, 2010, I was getting

relaxed and felt comfortable with the working environment. Most
of the bosses are jokers and they are so pleasant so I felt happy
and fine.

My first task this day was to answer phone calls. I should

be polite and observed the proper manner in answering calls.
After a moment, my boss gave me a few documents that I need
to scan and send it to his email address. After I scanned the
documents, Ms. Ann asked me to open the outlook to see if
there is update. Moreover, for the whole afternoon I was just
answering phone calls.
On the following day, Ms.
Ann taught me on how to use
e-Tracker and SharePoint. I was very busy that time because I'll
make sure that all the things about e-Tracker and SharePoint
must I learn but I'm also happy because I wanted to experience
new things and learn things that I didn't learned in the four
corners of my room in our school.

November 29-03, 20101, Ms. Ann taught me all the things

that i need to do while I'm on the office and all my tasks as IT
help desk. Ms. Ann taught me first how to use MS Outlook, she
taught all that I need to do in outlook and all that I need to
update every day.

memorize their local so that whenever there is someone calling them I
can pick up the phone for them.

Learning to manage communication tools such as phones and MS Outlook is crucial in OJT as it enables efficient workplace communication, essential for daily operations. These tools help the trainee respond to requests promptly, manage schedules, and keep track of updates, which are essential aspects of the IT help desk responsibilities they were undertaking .

The OJT program contributed to the student's professional development by providing hands-on experience with real tools, equipment, and documents in their chosen field. It allowed the student to practice what they learned academically in a real-world setting, thus acquiring relevant skills and knowledge. The presence of knowledgeable trainers ensured the quality of training received .

OJT enhances employee skills by being a premeditated and organized training conducted at the employee's worksite. It is designed to broaden skills and increase productivity, specifically in jobs that are easy to learn and make use of locally owned equipment and facilities. The training is based on analyzing major job requirements and related knowledge, skills, and abilities .

The document illustrates the importance of direct interaction with technology during OJT by detailing experiences where the trainee gained practical knowledge of IT systems like eTracker, SharePoint, and SILAS. This hands-on approach allowed the trainee to perform tasks such as processing requests and managing data in real time, thereby building competency and confidence in their technical skills, which couldn't be replicated in a traditional classroom setting .

Ms. Ann played a crucial role in helping the trainee adjust to the work environment by training them on using office equipment like copiers, printers, scanners, and phones. She also taught the trainee how to use MS Outlook, e-Tracker, and SharePoint, ensuring they learned all necessary tasks related to the IT help desk position .

The document suggests that the quality of OJT can be improved through the valuable means of ensuring that trainers have sufficient knowledge and expertise to impart to trainees. Additionally, a sound plan based on the analysis of job requirements and related skills and abilities is vital. Adequate preparation and organization tailored to job-specific skills could enhance the effectiveness of OJT .

The use of systems like SILAS and SharePoint is significant because they provide a structured way to handle requests, manage information, and solve problems. SILAS supports account management tasks such as creating exchange/active directory accounts and resetting passwords, while SharePoint organizes and records all issues and requests submitted by phone. These systems enhance efficiency and learning by providing practical, real-world problem-solving experiences .

The approval process for eTracker requests involves several hierarchical steps that ensure control and security. Requests start with the manager and proceed through the Functional Director, Human Resources, Finance Director as needed, and end with the System Administrator. This multi-layered approval path ensures that only authorized requests are fulfilled, which mitigates unauthorized access and maintains data integrity within the company's network .

The workplace environment had a significant impact on the trainee's learning experience. The positive and pleasant attitude of the coworkers, described as jokers, made the trainee feel relaxed and comfortable, which is crucial for effective learning. Being in an encouraging and supportive environment helped the trainee stay motivated and eager to learn and adapt to new challenges .

The trainee initially faced challenges such as nervousness, unfamiliarity with the work environment, and not knowing how to interact with colleagues. These challenges were addressed by their supervisor, Mr. De Leon, through orientation and introduction to coworkers. Additionally, Ms. Ann helped ease the transition by training the trainee on essential tasks and making them feel comfortable in the new environment .
