0 Khan foundation, Bangladesh
Khan Foundation (KF) started functioning voluntarily in 1988when an overwhelming flood submerged
the whole Bangladesh. KF is a private and non-profit charitable organization. In the beginning the
Foundation worked only in the area of relief and rehabilitation. But gradually it expanded with working
areas and built its reputation as one of the few PVDOs linking different levels of the society from the
highest level of the government to the grass root level. At present, the main working areas of the

Democratic and Socio-economic development in Bangladesh with international vocation which brings
together both horizontal and vertical cross sections of the society such as parliamentarians,
academicians, professionals, members of civil society, executives, business community and at the same

3.0 Women and environment of Bangladesh
1. To strengthen and sustain true representative democracy in the country from the
grassroots local government through to central government level while promoting a
democratic culture in the country

women, children and the poor, through launching of effective social and economic
development programmes.
3. To further the cause of the United Nations around the Globe and work towards achieving
in Bangladesh The Millennium Development Goals within the target year as set out by
the United Nations
3.2 Assessment of environment and women
Under the Khan Foundation Ruddy List there are two ways of categorizing the women in enviornment;
universally and territorially. Whereas the categorization doesn’t change as well much, there are slight
contrasts.
3.2.1 Global assessment
International agreements have made crucial links between women and the environment; the
challenge is to take action. The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination
Against Women (1979), an international “bill of rights” for women, addresses a host of
environmental issues. Likewise, the Beijing Platform for Action, an outcome of the Fourth
World Conference on Women (1995), includes an entire chapter on women and the environment.
It foreshadowed the different impacts global warming would have on women and men, which are
now evident across the globe.
Major sustainable development treaties, also, have acknowledged the specific need for women’s
participation and for a mainstreamed gender perspective. The 1992 United Nations Earth Summit
(UNCED) produced two key conventions — on biological diversity and on combating
desertification — that have served as guides for implementation of environmental actions from a
gender perspective. The overall UNCED document, Agenda 21, included a specific chapter on
gender, which highlighted the important role women play in industrialized countries as
sustainable consumers. Indeed, the links between women and environment are not solely
concentrated in the global South (i.e., developing countries). Studies have shown that women in
the North (i.e., developed countries) have a smaller carbon footprint than men, making the
majority of “green” decisions at the household level and for travel according to a 2007 Swedish
government report.
3.2.2 Regional assessment
The women’s issues in Bangladesh are considered to be a chronic problem of patriarchal society. Despite
several positive policies and programs undertaken by the government and NGOs recently, the position
of women in the society did not improve to a satisfactory level. Now, the relationship between women
and the environment has become more explicit and apparent. As such, the article seeks to provide basic
information related to women and environment and advocacy for environment and women in
Bangladesh. Through an extensive review of literatures, this study attempts to shed light on the
challenges of women with a view of exploring the linkages between women and environment and
adverse impact that falls on women. It also emphasizes on environmental advocacy for women. The
work is accomplished on the basis of secondary sources including – book reviews, newspapers, journals,
research reports and other secondary materials. Implications of the past literature with regard to
empower women as they interact with environmental and cultural elements
3.3 Context Analysis
3.3.1 International context
The evaluation makes a difference conservators and approach creators in distinguishing the species that
have to be be ensured all over the world, to guarantee the biological system or environment it lives in is
sound. On the off chance that any species is categorized as CR, EN or VU all inclusive, it is tall time the
conservators take take note and avoid it from getting to be terminated. For species falling beneath the
EW category, plans ought to be made to see into ways for releasing/reintroducing the captive populaces
back into the wild, guaranteeing that they can survive. Conservators and masters must too consider the
species that are categorized as DD, as we have no thought as to what state the populace is in, it can be
anyplace between LC to CR (as certain sum of information is really required some time recently
classifying a species as DD). Those that have not been evaluated have to be be looked into as well;
there's no data on such species, subsequently their genuine status is obscure, they can be LC or all the
way terminated. Conservators must keep all of this in mind if they want to prevent or slow down
biodiversity loss, and keep the different ecosystems healthy.
3.3.2 National context
The information is accessible within the site of IUCN and/or the devoted office of the Government
Woodland Directorate and in this way can be utilized for scholastics, preservation and inquire about by
interested parties. This evaluation may well be considered as key assets for approach creators,
environment division, Timberland Office, NGOs, and scholastic teach. The data can be utilized for the
purposes of preservation arranging and need setting for species preservation; directing approach
formulation for preservation and administration, and assignment of stores for species preservation
within the nation is urgently needed. Education and open mindfulness approximately biodiversity
preservation ought to be given need in case preservation organizers within the nation really need to
anticipate misfortune of species. Joining the IUCN Red List into the instruction framework, counting the
categories, and debilitated species to appear the significance of species preservation, could be a
required step.
3.4 Project Location
The assessors and lead assessors have gone all over Bangladesh to discover the women that are to be
important within the up and coming environmental situation Regions such as Lawachara timberland,

sources for fuel, and food, as well as both forests and agricultural terrain.

4.0 Discussion
Before 18 th and 19 th century, it was considered that women have no role in environmental
conservation and promotion, as well as they were avoided in all major sphere of social life. But after
spreading awareness about their rights and duties and taking cognizance of their surrounding they
consciously tried to raise voice against environment degradation. Women had launched numbers of
movement in demanding of better protection of natural resources and environment conservation. Like
in India, Amrita Devi had sacrificed their life for protection of the trees that was going to fell down by
commercial logger in Uttarakhand. Other women like Vandana Shiva have also contributed in
environment conservation and protection. They had organized women and people through the
Navdanya movement of 1982. Growing population and technological advancement are continuously
putting a strain on the environment and on country’s natural resources. Over-exploitation of the
country’s resources like land, water, fuel etc. has resulted in degradation of resources mainly due to
industrial pollution, soil erosion, deforestation and urbanization. Therefore, conservation of natural
resources and promotion of environment cannot be done without involving the women in planning and
training for promoting the values for conservation and promotion of environment. Hence, attempt has
been made to assess the role of women in conservation and promotion of environment along with
suitable strategy for the same.

6.0 Conclusion
This internship has been an amazing learning involvement; two things I have learned here is being
persistent, and assembly the due dates. I have moreover learned to work in an organized way, and to have
questions prepared, when I need feedbacks. Apart from previously mentioned encounters, I have met
distinctive sorts of individuals with whom I had to work with beneath different circumstances; which has
given me the opportunity to extend my organize. I have met numerous superb individuals with whom I
