EDUCATION DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

The Philippine Educational System in Time of COVID 19

Due to the widespread scare which was brought about by the Corona Virus Disease
from Wuhan, China—COVID 19, the educational system in our country was greatly
and negatively affected. It led to a great inconvenience to the teaching and learning
processes in most educational institutions.

March 15, 2020, marks the official day where the life and work that we usually do for
every day has changed. Furthermore, the pandemic allowed the suspension of classes
to happen where it made it impossible for others to finish their tasks in school.

This unexpected situation made it very troublesome for everyone. In just a blink of an
eye, face to face learning was an impossible thing to happen. Young people below 21
years old and people older than 50 are no longer allowed to go outside of their
houses unless necessary and everyone is advised to follow the health protocol given
by the professionals and reminded to always wear face masks and face shields for
protection.
Different types of problems arose in the time of the re-opening of classes this coming

October 5, 2020, but despite all of the challenges, the Department of Education
provided some efficient ways on how to we may be able to cope with it. During the
enrolment process, the “New Normal Policy” was utilized for everyone’s safety, and
the use of the Electronic Process has been professionally done.

Many people opposed this decision by the Department of Education. Many believed
that it is more acceptable to have an academic freeze. As of now, the start of classes
online is still on its way. We all need to adapt to this new normal. This Pandemic is not
the end of education here in our country. There are lots of ways to cope with this
situation. Our country needs unity, perseverance, and cooperation.

KES STAFF ZOOM MEETING
Teachers’ worlds have turned
upside down during the COVID-19
pandemic. Beyond having to
suddenly adjust curriculums and
schedules accordingly, KES
teachers are getting good at
communicating through the used
of Zoom application.

Zoom is a tool that greatly helped

the teachers and the school
administrators. It provides a suite
of useful features, including the
ability to host meetings, sharing
presentations, collaborate on
projects by annotating
documents on other teachers'
screens and also allows video and

GULAYAN SA PAARALAN

Kataasan Elementary School makes a

better way to banish malnutrition.
“Gulayan sa Paaralan is one of activities
that is very crucial to make our vegetables
free from destruction and make it appoint
that pupils and parents understand the
importance of trees, plants and
vegetables.
It is also part of Department of Education
yearly activity, they want to pursue and
implement this program to every school
to support and preserve our environment
as well as our natural resources.

Many of our parents and barangay officials

were so supportive of our program. Last
May 2020,we already started the program.
The parents already planted different
seeds like ampalaya, okra, tomatoes,
pechay, sili and eggplant. They will still
plant other vegetable plants like squash
and also calamansi.

Teachers as well find accurate place suited

for vegetables so that it will grow faster
and safe. This activity enlightens and
teaches our beloved pupils to plant more
vegetables not only in the school
premises but also to the community. By
having the “ Gulayan sa Paaralan “ pupils
will learn to plant vegetables in their
backyard that can be source of food by
the family.

We are hoping that our Gulayan sa

Paaralan Program would prosper. This
would be of big help in our school to
support and sustain our other program
which is the School Based Feeding
Program. Also, since most of the families
of our pupils are low income earners this
would help them in their day to day living .
All of these would help banish
malnutrition in our school and alleviate
poverty in our beloved barangay –
Barangay Kataasan. 13

WHAT IT TAKES TO BE AN EFFECTIVE TEACHER IN EVERY PUPIL
(Karen M. Caole)
What it takes to be effective teacher to our pupils, First a teacher must
truly passionate about teaching, show love and care to every pupils
sometimes we called “anak” because we believed that we spend more
time with them to be our child, we considered ourselves the second
mother of the students. Second, a teacher must think positive, bring a
positive energy into the classroom every single day. Even if you are
having a bad day learn to show happiness in your face, take the day as
cool as breeze, by doing that, you spread your positive attitude towards
your students. Third, be an open-minded because there are times your
going to face criticism and evaluation from your principal, head, co-
teacher, parents and even your students, just remember you are not
perfect and always remember there’s a room for improvements. Fourth,
keep reflecting on your work, recognized your weaknesses, learn from it,
and work on it to improve your teaching skills. Fifth, has standards for
you and your pupils let them know which is acceptable and not, show
the students the best and teach them the best, and you will see the
output that you did for them. Lastly, give your 100% performance at all
times, sometimes if we can give 101% to exceed expectation why not do
it. To be an effective teacher, do your 100% for your self, students,
parents, schools, family and everyone who believes in you. Never give
up and do your best. The most important above all of these is GOD
Fearing, because if we believed that god is the source of every thing that
we have, humbly asking him to guide us in our teaching, we can be as
effective as we want to be.
