CENTRAL COURTYARD
Central courtyard has always been the
essence of any vernacular house in the
region. But Chandigarh has always fol-
lowed different layout. Thus I have inter-
mixed th e two and come to a result that
there is a central space but not a court-
yard. Central space is a yen garden but
according to the Indian traditions, there is
a tulsi plant at the focus.
The final layout of the house is an amal-
gamtion of vernacular house type i,e Hav-
elis in Punjab and a typical house in Chan-
digarh.
