Course Objectives:
Transitions 1, is a 1 credit, elective course for high school students who have IEP’s. It is designed
to help prepare students for successful independent living upon graduation from high school.
Through individual and/or group activities, discussions, video and computer instruction, guest
speakers, and experiential learning, the concepts covered will include: disability awareness,
understanding social norms, effective communication, choosing a healthy lifestyle, basic first aid,
making medical and dental appointments, household smarts, safety, nutrition, grooming, financial
responsibilities, emotional health, self-advocacy, career planning, and other areas of transition.
Grading:
Besides daily in-class instruction and various assignments (virtual or in-person) students will
complete weekly quizzes or tests and one quarterly project in which students will creatively
demonstrate knowledge of concepts.
