Why Only Humans Can Be Ethical

Ethics refers to standards of behavior that are considered acceptable within a specific community or profession, and are influenced by organizations. Morality refers to rules of conduct set by a society or religion that are based on an individual's personal convictions about right and wrong. The key differences between morality and ethics are that ethics deals with what one ought to do based on professional guidelines, while morality is about an individual's actual beliefs and actions. Only human beings can be considered ethical or moral agents since they alone are rational, autonomous beings that can make choices and be held accountable by moral standards.

ETHICS

Ethics refers to behavior that may be justifiable or unjustifiable within a specific


community. (Galforo, Blaine T., L’Hullier, Barbara, 2017)

Ethics is the attempt to discern and comprehend the human behavior and values that can
guide human in a systematic way. (Farrow, 2016)

Ethics is characterized as a set of guidelines and rules that may guide an individual
behavior to behave in an organization or civil society. (Lander, 2010)

MORALITY

Morality refers to certain set of accepted rules set forward by a society or an organization
(such as a religion), or acknowledged by an a person for his/her own conduct. (Gert, Bernard and
J. Gert, 2017)

Morality grasps an individual convictions about the propriety or integrity of what he


does, thinks or feels. ([Link])

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MORALIY AND ETHICS

Ethics deals with what someone ought to do Morality deals with what someone is actually
and what sorts of people they ought to be doing and what kind of person he/she is.
