Entry 1:

This chapter reviews the importance of location in a sports facility, which is one of the

most important components when planning a sports facility. Some of the factors are

acquisition methods, cost considerations, and environmental constraints. Also, there are

political and community issues. Private organizations built to achieve profit, while a

public facility is built to meet the needs of the community. Besides, the chapter

examines which components need to be considered when choosing a sports facility site.

The location, zoning, and other regulations, user needs, and community impact are the

most important components. On another hand, the chapter also analyses the different

external issues affecting sports facilities. Some of the external issues are detailed

geographies such as soil or vegetation, additional acreage for expansion, shape, and

demographics of the area. Despite this, sports facilities have specific components for

their design. Sports facilities are composed of building systems, ancillary facilities,

restrooms, weight rooms, roofs, layout, and blueprints. Most of the facilities are

composed of these components, it can sometimes change depending on the facility and

its size.

My connection with this chapter is sports and my passion for it. As we talked in the last

chapter, planning is always important in a sports facility. This is not only for the sports

facility event throughout the year but also before the sports facility is created. This

chapter relates how important it is to choose the right components when creating a new
facility. For this reason, having a plan of the components such as location can help the

sports facility to be successful. Besides, I think I am going to difference the components

and the external issues affecting a sports facility the next time I go to one. I have never

paid attention to those components before realizing their importance in the facilities.
