Do not be ashamed to be a PGSD student

PGSD? Often that's what's in the minds of my friends when it comes to PGSD
majors. Why? Because the mindset of friends is already imprinted that PGSD will only
become an elementary school teacher. Elementary school teachers who struggle daily with
children aged 7-12 years are very badung. Elementary school teacher with little salary. An
elementary teacher who has to deal with all those annoying school nags. In the eyes of most
Indonesian people, elementary school teachers are not prestigious professions.
But all of that mindset began to waver when there is an issue from the government
that states that the welfare of elementary school teachers will be considered in the future.
Start the parents in droves order (read: advise) his son to take this majors. PGSD became a
popular department in the community. Tens of thousands of fresh graduates from high school
stormed this department. Unfortunately, who knows things like this is also only our
predecessors whose profession bersenggolan with education. In ordinary society, still the
elementary school teacher is a less proud thing.
Furthermore, the majors that will print educators early next generation of the nation
is still 'marginalized'. Why is that? Because in the eyes of students from other majors, PGSD
students are less fashionable students. In fact, at some universities that separate PGSD
campus from the main campus social gap is increasingly felt. Every time I set foot on the
main campus, the PGSD student steps accompanied by a strange look from friends outside
the PGSD department. Of course not all like that. Others appreciate the difference. But for
college students out there, PGSD is not among the students who can be called cool.
From these various phenomena, so many students majoring in PGSD are not proud
to be part of their department. They take this course only on the encouragement of parents by
considering the salary if it becomes a civil servant later. That's also not wrong. Which parent
wants to mislead the child?
But my friend, PGSD is not only a teacher education department, but also a school
of personality. Why is that? Because when we set foot in PGSD, for the next 4 years we will
be digodog to be a polite person and community. PGSD students are better able to see the
existing community situation. Because they are indeed going back to the middle layer society
down. Because PGSD students will struggle in the midst of the dynamics of society that until
now has not aspirasinya channeled. And more importantly, PGSD students become a

milestone for nation improvement because they are the ones who prepare the younger
generation of successors of this country.
Because of this heavy task, PGSD students are trained with various activities that
shape their character. Starting from an exhausting series of scouting activities, to lectures that
require them to practice speaking in front of the crowd, including practicing managing many
people in one room. Things like this that are either conscious or not also shape their
character. Indirectly, they have prepared themselves as well as rebuild the character of a
complete Indonesian man. PGSD which in fact 'marginalized' is precisely one of the
important elements of nation building.
Another reason is, lectures at PGSD indirectly educate us both from how to dress,
how to talk, to how to get along in the community and friends. We are unknowingly
accustomed to look and mingle in society in accordance with the norms and values prevailing
in society. Society and also lecturers from other majors even admitted that when students are
deployed in the community, PGSD students are students who are more adaptable and
socialize with the surrounding community.
The PGSD student is a generalist, specialized in his proficiency in one area, such as
dance, music, scientific work, research, sports, and other fields. So the capital of this
department to be able to grow very qualified. The advantages of generalist PGSD students
have been achieved, and still have the facility to explore specific specifications. If a generalist
'knows a lot' in terms of understanding many things but superficially, a specialist 'knows a lot'
in terms of little things but deep. So, the task of PGSD students is to become 'GEN
SPECIAL'. Understand many things and deep. (Siron, 2012)

Developing PGSD Students Character through Experience Learning

PGSD student is a prospective educator for the next generation. In PGSD student's hands,
children of the nation is guided and nurtured being person who is smart and and have good

character as the goal of education in Indonesia. So, PGSD student have to be equipped the
educator competencies such as pedagogic competence, personal competence, social
competence, and professional competence. But in fact, the provision which is covered by four
competencies has not possessed in the whole PGSD student self completely. From the result
of tracer study in PGSD student alumni which was done by PGSD department on 2011, it
shows that the pedagogic competency of PGSD alumni had been innovative and creative; but
the personal, social and professional competence had not achieved the standarized yet. It
seems from the alumnus behavior, such as a lack of communication skills alumnus fellow
colleagues, had an unstable personality (or immature), selfish and less authoritative, less
polite in clothes, smoking in any place, and others. Indeed, this requires the existence of
learning strategy in PGSD department to impress the candidate of elementary school
teachers, who are competent and have character. One of learning strategies to make
competent teacher which have the character is the intervention techniques experience
learning theory (ELT) by David Kolb model (1984). David Kolb intervention strategy
consists of four stages: concrete experience (real), reflection, conceptualization, and
application. With the utilization of ELT which is as one part in this study, it is expected that
PGSD students can apply their knowledge in the real field, as well as get a firsthand
experience of being a teacher from the beginning of the semester.

PGSD Becomes Favorite

Who does not want to go to college at a favorite college and go to the favorite
majors and prospects for the future either. So many people are in droves to enter the college
in question with the hope to quickly get a job and high salary after graduation. Now going to
college is very difficult and the cost is very big. So for the less fortunate people it is
impossible to continue to university level. So the lecture is only for the circle of the rich. So
very apprehensive for children who excel but less able. Although there are scholarships from
the government, they are uneven and may not be affordable for disadvantaged children.
Especially with the entrance fee of universities or other languages donations that have been
established college very burdensome once for people who have children who will enter the
university.
PGSD you must have heard those words. PGSD or Primary School Teachers
Education is the department that prints the elementary school teachers in Indonesia which is
now a phenomenon when the University Entrance Examination 3 years ago. Now many
parents who do not want their children to go wrong in the direction of the prospective job, so

many of the parents who direct their sons and daughters to go to the department of PGSD
(Primary Teacher Education) Department of producing elementary school teachers in
Indonesia . It turned out that the number of applicants in the university PGSD organizers
membludak so much and become the most majors invaded the new student candidates who
must be the favorite course for children and parents who direct after graduating from high
school. We do not know what the reasons behind it. Some opinions that may be the reasons
behind the entry of PGSD include:
- the ideals of being an elementary school teacher
- promising job prospects after graduation
- the better teachers' welfare
- Professional allowance of the teaching profession
- the issue of mass school teacher retirement in Indonesia
- in addition to working teachers also charity by educating students (the hereafter)
Above are some of the reasons behind the entry of PGSD. There may be many other reasons,
depending on the individual concerned.
The most important of all the reasons to become a teacher is to promote education in
Indonesia and form a good and sincere childhood personality in devoting themselves to the
progress of the child. Hopefully education in our beloved country is getting better. And
hopefully the teacher-printing universities in Indonesia can print qualified teachers. Do not
just multiply students to seek mere profit but also must pay attention to the quality of the
output of its students who will become future qualified teachers in the future.
Graduate Profile of PGSD Study Program
1. Graduates who are cautious of God Almighty and personality are shown by the attitude
of elementary school teachers who prioritize the values of discipline, wise, wise, healthy
and fit life.
2. Graduates who are able to design, implement and assess the learning process in primary
schools that refers to the achievement of learning objectives both cognitive, affective and
psychomotor aspects.
3. Graduates who master learning materials, learning methodologies and can design
interactive learning media that is appropriate to the characteristics of concrete
operational learning at the primary school level.
4. Graduates who master the science of education so that it can apply didactic-methodology
in developing learners at the primary school level.

5. Graduates who are able to develop their field of science through research-based
classroom action education in accordance with the needs and development of science and
technology, insightful global, creative, and innovative.
6. Graduates who are able to communicate empathic and entrepreneurial spirit and meet the
needs of the community at the primary school level.
