Easter Island is a small, isolated island located thousands of kilometers off the coast of Chile in the Pacific Ocean. Originally, the island had more inhabitants and trees, but over time the population grew too quickly and the inhabitants used up all the food and resources on the island, eventually causing all of them to die. The large stone statues found on Easter Island are famous around the world, but scientists still do not know exactly why the original inhabitants built them or how they were able to transport and erect such big statues.
