upon the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), the sea of knowledge who has guided His Ummah

university as a degree requirement for Masters in Commerce program.
This report has been prepared in accordance with the guidelines issued by the department. It is
the result of my first professional experience. The report is practical application of whatever I
have studied as a business graduate of National University of Modern Languages. In this report, I
have covered the introduction of Meezan Bank. Detail of my working and learning in the
organization, impact on job on career in future. I feel that this experience would be of great help
in future.

I have put all the efforts to summarize my knowledge and experience in this report to make in

 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
To have practical exposure with the bookish knowledge is pre-requisites for the effective
learning. The purpose for this practice is to see management principles, organizational politics,
and workplace environment and to learn about the operations of the organization. To accomplish
this purpose I selected the banking sector and luckily I got a chance to have six-week internship
at Meezan Bank (Ravi Road Branch, Lahore). MBL has the solid foundation. Meezan Bank is
the first and largest Islamic Commercial Bank of Pakistan. The Bank is headquartered in Meezan
House - Karachi, Pakistan. It has a network of over 428 branches in 117 cities of Pakistan.

My area of internship relates to customer service department and clearing department. This
report contains introduction of bank, clearing department, organizational profile of bank,
remittance department, advances department and foreign exchange department. This report
includes the information regarding the performance of bank. It also includes all details about
operations of Islamic Banking System. Meezan Bank provides better quality of financial services
in our country with profitability and responsibility and to be the best place to work.

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background
Banking plays a very significant role in the economic development of a country. MEEZAN Bank
Limited, a publicly listed company, was incorporated on January 27, 1997 and started operations
as an investment bank in August that year. In January, 2002 in an historic initiative, MEEZAN
Bank was granted the country’s first full-fledged commercial banking license as a dedicated
Islamic Bank, by the State Bank of Pakistan.

Having the largest branch network and product range, MEEZAN Bank bears the critical
responsibility of leading the way forward in establishing a stable and dynamic Islamic banking
system replete with dynamic and cutting-edge products and services. MEEZAN Bank aims to
fulfil its prime objective of providing customers accessibility and convenience, within an
atmosphere and culture of dedicated service and recognition of their needs.

MEEZAN Bank has developed an extraordinary research and development capability by

combining investment bankers, commercial bankers, Shariah scholars and legal experts to
develop innovative, viable, and competitive value propositions that not only meet the
requirements of today’s complex financial world, but do so with world-class service excellence
which our customers demand; all within the bounds of Shariah.

The Bank has a market share of 35% in Islamic banking industry of the country. Pakistan’s
banking sector consisting of Islamic Banks, Private Banks, Public Sector Banks, and Micro
Finance Banks. These Banks are doing Corporate Banking, Trade Financing, Lease Financing
and some Banks are providing online banking facilities, ATM facility and money transfer
facilities also.

Banking sector is a back bone of our economy. If this sector is making progress than whole
economy is also growing a lot. Our Agricultural sector, Industrial sector, mining sector, Export
sector all depend on the banking industry because Banks provide long term funds as well as short
term funds to all these sectors to meet out their short term as well as long term requirement.
Hence, banking progress is necessary indeed.
