Developing a Weekly Exercise Routine for Self-Improvement
Exercise
Developing the habit of exercise is the excellent way of self-improvement. Regular
exercise improves your physical health and enhances your endurance. It also helps your tissues
to be able to gain nutrients and oxygen required for their healthy maintenance. Your
cardiovascular system started working better with daily exercise. The health of your
cardiovascular system means the health of your heart and lungs that ultimately lower the risk of
any diseases.
If you are going through any ailment e.g. obesity, blood pressure etc. then you should
consider that making exercise your daily routine can be very helpful. Exercise is not only for the
people going through some illness, if you think that you are a healthy person and you don’t need
exercise then you are probably wrong.
Exercise not only have physical but also mental health benefits. Regular exercise helps a
person deal with depression, anxiety, ADHD and many more. It works as a stress reliever and
improves your memory. Daily exercise also improves your sleeping pattern and freshens up your
mood tremendously.
If you are worried that you will not be able to make exercise your daily habit then I will
tell you that it’s really not so difficult. All you need is some dedication and work. Here I am
going to share ten practical suggestions that will definitely help you to make exercise your daily
habit. Here we go;
1. Deciding a time first
Setting a time is really important and almost necessary in making it possible to
work. If you do not set any time and just start doing it then there are eighty percent
chances that you are going to put it off the next day. To avoid such situation we suggest
you to set a particular time and you have to strictly follow it to ingrain the habit of
exercise. If you are an early riser you can set up a time in the morning. Morning exercises
are said to have different spiritual effects on the people. If morning exercise is not
possible then make it evening exercise or noon exercise, whatever that suits you.
However, sticking to the time is the thing that only matters.
2. Commitment
The next important part is commitment whether you are going to the gym or you are doing
your exercise at home. You express your commitment by showing up in gym or by practicing it
at home. Your effort to even make it possible is what counts. That is the only thing you need to
focus on and commit to in the beginning.
3. 30 Days Challenge
Give yourself 30 days challenge. Set up the habit of exercise by tiny little steps. Just be your
own instructor and give yourself a peep talk. You can also reward yourself if you become able to
win the challenge after 30 days.
4. Duration
In the beginning don’t stress your muscles too much. If you are not very athletic person there
is a possibility that you will face sore muscles and cramps. No need to worry about it this is
normal. But remember in the beginning you are just making it a habit only. You can’t do hard
exercises just on your first day or even in two weeks. Set up the duration of exercise like for the
first five days you can exercise for fifteen minutes. After that, start increasing the time little by
little like twenty seconds then 30 seconds and so on.
5. Tiny Steps
As I said earlier don’t over work on first month of exercising. It will only make you put off the
habit real soon and we don’t want that. Remember slow and steady wins the race. Start doing
little exercises that are not so much tiring and then progress gradually. For instance, if you are
doing push-ups then start doing it for like five times daily for five days. You can gradually
increase the number of push-ups after that.
6. A Reminder
A memo is a good think to make yourself a text that reminds you to start exercising. If you
are forgetful then it is a best way to make it possible. Remember the key is to just start it out and
progress gradually. Add a little motivation quote for yourself so that you could push yourself to
make if possible. For instance, “The only bad exercise is the one that does not occur at all”.
7. Make it A Fun Habit
If you really want to achieve your goals then you need to first understand that you just can’t
fulfill whatever body goals you have in mere two weeks. This will only stress you out. Make
your exercise a fun little activity in the beginning. You can leave your house and walk to the
park near your house at the time of sunset or sunrise. This will have therapeutic effect on your
mind and soul that will make you want to see it daily. If the timings of sunset or sunrise are not
possible for you then use other thing like listening to your favorite songs while exercising. You
can also just play little games in beginning to move your muscles e.g. tennis.
8. Grab a Friend
We tend to work better if we do it with someone we know or love. Both of you can work
together to help each other get to point you want to achieve. If the one feels like skipping then
the other one can motivate the other one to keep going on.
9. Ask Yourself
Once you are done with your exercise ask yourself what were the exercises that you like the
most or what were the exercises that tired you the most? Then next time give more time to the
ones you like so that you can at least ingrain the habit of exercising.
10. Recovery
Recovery is very important in this respect as it will affect your consistency. Recover your
muscles after exercising with different things like meditation, massage treatments etc.
