COURSE TITLE: COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT MODALITIES AND APPROACHES
COURSE OVERVIEW: This course will enable community development students to become
conversant/familiar with different modalities i.e community participation, integration and
fulfillment of needs evidence-based etc. and approaches i.e commodity based approach, project
approach etc. for community development. Furthermore, this course will also provide principles
that help the students analyzed organizations, guidelines, and representation of each modality
and each approach. Categorization of development initiatives will also be introduced to students,
i.e. extension service, outreach, etc. to analyze what modalities and approaches to be used in
community development.
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
1. COGNITIVE
1.1. Describe the different modalities and approaches involved in performing
community development;
1.2. Identify and explain the different modalities and approaches & how it is applied in
community development work;
1.3. Compare and contrast the principles of each modality and approaches in analyzing
organization, guidelines for community development;
1.4. Describe the scope, levels and functions of different modalities i.e community
participation, integration and fulfillment of needs evidence-based etc. and
approaches i.e commodity based approach, project approach etc. for community
development; and
1.5. Categorized the development initiatives such as extension service, etc. to analyze
what modalities and approaches to be used in community development.

2. AFFECTIVE
2.1. Elaborate and demonstrate the different modalities and approaches and its function
for community development work;
2.2. Illustrate/Exhibit compassion to diverse community development processes
through different modalities and dealing communities using different approaches;
and
2.3. Distinguish and recognize the value of modalities and approaches in community
and its unique contribution to community development worker.

3. PSYCHOMOTOR
3.1. Demonstrate beginning competencies in different modalities and approaches
functions or skills in analyzing principles, organizations, guidelines, and
representations of each modality and approach in community development
method.

success with students learning online.)
